hmmmm . . . I guess it is not a big deal, but --

If you take that foam plug out, the engine will be sucking unfiltered air in through the sound tube, won't it?

I guess it doesn't matter as long as you don't kick a big cloud of dust off your boots when you get in the car.

Maybe it will make it breathe better too, maybe 1 or 2 HP gain?

No, no air will flow back to the motor. There is a diaphram in that device that the hose hooks to on the strut tower.

I agree, the sound tube is a bit silly, but I also understand why they did it. Induction sounds good.

So, now that we've got some 2011 5.0's in the hands of owners, has anybody "uncorked" the Coyote's sound tube yet?

Yep, but since putting on the muffler deletes its useless anyway

Did like it until that though, only removed the piece in the engine bay. When I took the foam out of the cabin end it sounded to hollow to me.

Cool Old School S-197

Funny our 2007 GT/CS does not really need any silly little helper sound tube! When ever you floor the "CAL", it sounds as if the whole hood is going to just get sucked right down into the intake system. And that is with the windows up!! Love it! I know what you are thinking. Old school S-197.. Here comes the heat! CalStang

The new sound proofing they did surrounds the engine, hood, wheels, and exhaust pipe all the way down the underside of the car. The sound tube is great for getting that sweet note to the driver when he's punching it and still allow conversation at cruise/idle speeds.

I took two video's - one with and one without. And honestly...I can't tell the difference between the two in terms of loudness when listening to the two clips, but while driving the car...it seems louder without the foam piece.

This was with the foam removed from the engine bay.

When mine comes in I figure I'll drive it for a week as-is, then try it for a week with the foam removed from the engine side of the tube. Decide which I like better. The consensus seems to be that removing the foam from the cabin side gives it a "hollow" sound.

Here's the clip...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol6Cj95ckDM

First half is without the foam piece, second half is with the foam piece. Not much of a difference if you ask me...

Again, this was just the foam in the engine bay. (not the firewall piece)

So I decided to try this last night so that when I went to work the next morning, I can try to see if there was a difference. I was a little disappointed when I heard almost no difference. It wasn't until after I got home from work when I was able to really open it up hard. I had the car up to 6000 rpms and I could barely hear myself think. Man was it loud. My girlfriend was with me and she said it was really loud. My car has about 1200 miles on it so it's pretty broken in. Do I recommend doing it? Sure, but you won't hear much difference unless you really get on it.

Was this with both pieces of foam taken out?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that part. I only took out the engine bay one. I figured it would be too much if I took out both. I will take out the cabin one tomorrow or this weekend and let you guys know if there's a difference.
