So these showed up in the mail...

Hi friends. I got a set of Boss 302S rims from Ford Racing for the 2012 GTCS.
I know we talk alot about tires but I was hoping you all could help me find the best looking tire, price, and correct SIZE for these rims. 19x9 Fronts 19x10 Rears Authentic NOT replicas. Not sure if that matters. Any help and pics are appreciated. |
I checked my mail and didn't have those.:jester:
|
Gorgeous! I have MPSS, good for track days, good for street, harsh ride, and pricey. My next set I'm going to try Firestone's new Indy 500, great price (255/40 F & 285/35 R).
|
MSPP is a good choice. I can also highly recommend the Bridgestone Potenza S04. Very similar performance to MSPP (slightly slower), but they ride softer and are ~20% less expensive. I'd choose the same sizes Pete mentioned.
|
Ditto on size. I have the Bridgestones mentioned in the post right above me. I love them.
|
Being that you have a CS and have the 245/45/19s now, I'd do 255/40 up front and 275/40 in the rear to keep the height the same as stock for your speedometer and aesthetics.
|
Thanks for the replies all. Folks here been telling me that (255/40 F & 285/35 R) is the way to go...

How much would it throw the speedo off? Same rim height- but are the tires lower profile on the Boss? |
After punching it in on willtheyfit.com the difference is like 1mph. Idk if that's worth the difference to you, but the 255/285 combo will also be 1/2" shorter overall than your current tires. At stock ride height, it's noticeable.
|
Is the 275 wider and not just taller? My biggest fear is the lip of the rim sticking out if that makes sense.
|
Nice looking wheel. That is going to look killer!
|
I so want these rims on my Mustang.

It's only money. Go for it! These are very nice wheels. Congrats! Check here for tire size info: https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc |
Here is another Tire Size Comparison tool:
https://tiresize.com/comparison/ I like how this one gives visual representation and speed differences at different speeds. |
Widest I'd go on those front rims is 265/40/19
On the rears, ideal is 275/40 or 285/35, but you can even push it to a 305/35/19 |
275/40 F 285/40 R or 255/40 F 285/35 R
I went square on mine with the 9 inch wheels and 275/40 19 Continental DW's on all 4 corners As you can see there is no wheel showing and it still peaks out at 1.2 g's with this set up. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...5979abec8a.jpg |
What do people think of the Pirelli P Zeros that come on these cars? My two trips to Deal's Gap have been amazing on these tires. They even get hot and blister up nice and stuff sticks to them. I was impressed.
|
Mickey thompson street comp, they looks really good, and are great price for the performance they offer, decent tread wear too
would recommend 255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear |

would recommend 255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear So you're recommending really short tires, something that without any lowering springs, will lower the car by almost an inch by themselves. And have no sidewall in the process. Even the rear 275/35/19's are only 26.57" tall ... still an inch shorter than his stock size |

:nice: |
congrats man!!! Love the wheels. Tires wise, I think for your needs, go with a square high performance summer tire.

Thanks for all the great replies. Thanks Patrick for the suggestion on the 275 vs 285. It totally makes senses now. Wow, Im learning some things here with everyones help and with the help of the tire calculator.
Now I just need to find affordable tires. p.s. Man, I can't stand the stock Pirelli P Zeros. |
p.s. No one noticed what the UPS guy put on the shipping boxes?
lol |
I noticed lol...wasn't sure how to mention that :heh:
I like willtheyfit.com - easier to use for me than the others. I was very happy with the Cooper RS3-S. They just came out with a new UHP tire too. The Nitto 555 G2s are also getting great reviews. Either of those would be about $800 installed for the set. |
By the way, your CS center caps are a direct fit, so I'd swap them over if you want your tribar emblem on the grille to match the wheels ;)
|
Will never buy Pirellis ever again they were shyte! Stuck for 5k and then noisy as heck and the grip dropped off. I'm going to replace mine this coming spring. My fronts failed inspection at 16,500 k. :fuss:
|
I agree, I do not think that may got much more than 20,000 miles out of the Pirelli P-zeros and that was with regular rotations. I went through a couple of sets replacing two at a time due to some punctures because I didn't want to mismatch the tires. I switched to Bridgestone S04's last spring with much better results.

I felt like using the darker caps would blend in better. Actually, selling the new set of caps on the board. |

I had great grip with the Eagle F-1's on my traded Mustang...but man they were noisy! |

You maybe want to sell the regular pony caps? Mine went with my old Centerline wheels. I'd like to have a set on hand for my stock wheels...

Since op has 19s he can get a 45 sidewall instead, not a huge deal, either that or lower the car like you said and run the smaller sidewall 35s They're stretched a bit, so the wheel is the widest part (sucks when getting close to a curb), and there's very little sidewall, plus a 255 isn't really that wide if you want that 4,000-lb car to turn properly. Attachment 184604 So no, personally I'm not a fan of 255/35/any-rim-size, I think they're short and with a small amount of sidewall, which tends to lead to harsh ride characteristics and a lower-riding car than you might want, or a big fender gap. I have 275/35/20's on the front of my car (currently these wheels are for sale), and I think they provide much better cornering, ride quality, and a beefier sidewall: Attachment 184605 But anyway, we've gone off on a tangent ... the OP has 19's and he asked about 19" tire sizes, not 20's. Honestly, these are the sizes I'd probably run on 19x9 and 19x10 rims: front: 275/40/19 ... 27.66" tall rear: 305/35/19 ... 24.40" tall |

Got mine here..Great price and honest seller. |
Does anyone have the Laguna Seca style I bought on their ride?
|
10-4 Patrick, ill be a little less lazy next time when discussing the specs and sizes.
And Gabe, i gotcha and see what youre saying. Im not sure why your wife doesnt like the size though? Like i say i have 20x9 all around and im really happy with both the appearance and the cornering capability. The invos to me look really good in photos, but i recently saw them on a mustang in real life and hate to say it but they look awful. I much prefer the nt 05s or the nt555s |

I much prefer the nt 05s or the nt555s They do handle pretty good, but the traction is lacking. Then again, she was trying to put more than 600 rwtq to the ground on 285mm-wide Invos ... wasn't working very well. We're glad those tires are gone at least. She's much happier with the 305/35/20 555R's back there now

When I had my stock wheels (19/8.5) I ran a 255/40 and they did not look bulging. Many tire mfg have a 265 you could run up front. I have the Bridgestone S04 Pole position, and I like them. Run them all spring and summer. |

Right now I have the MPSS 255/40/19 on the front 285/35/19 on the rear. They ride excellent and have some pretty darn good grip and excellent manors in the rain. Around 55 degrees they have no straight line grip at around 560 to the wheels. When it was warm out, they had some pretty good grip. If you want to wait until March Michelin is releasing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S wheel which is supposed to be the evolution of the MPSS. |

Guys,
Thanks for all the great advice and input. Especially, about calculating sizes. I have a few months now to shop for some summer rubber but with a better perspective. Ironically, I did get some new rubber for car. I decided to turn my stock GTCS rims into a dedicated winter set. Picked up some Yokohama X-drives to tackle the Indy snow... More to come... |
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/themust...60856bb1ce.jpgHere are my 275/40 on 19x10 square BossS wheels. If mine were staggered 9f/10r, I would consider 265/40f and 295/35r.

I was able to slap these bad boys on yesterday. I went with the BF Goodrich Comp 2 A/S.
It was a short and brisk drive home (and with a new tune added) these tires did not dissapoint! some before and after pics. |
Looks great! What size tires did you get? Oh, and how were you able to stand waiting six months to get them installed? I went a week after I got my wheels and almost lost my mind.

I went with 255/40/10 front and some meaty 275/40s in the rear. They are wonderful no noise sticky tires!
and yes it was a long wait! Now I just need to get the roush splitters on the car now.👍 |
