I just flushed my MT82 with this stuff, and I'm very impressed.

I have no major shift issues, but every so often a shift would feel like a metal rod into a box of rocks. Crunchy, and not in a good way. MY MT-82 has done this since day 1. 18k on the car, and it hasn't gotten any better or any worse. I slapped on a Barton shifter bracket which helped with missed gears, but the 3rd, 2nd and (to a lesser extent) 4th would not feel so good a few times each day.

So I decided to try Synchromax. Wow! It removed 80% of the crunchy shifts. The shifts require less effort, and feel like going through hot butter most of the time. Every now and then 3rd will have that crunchy feeling, but overall much improved. Quick and cheap way (~$60) of improving shifter feel. Though I'd share. :grin:

Sounds fantastic cheap way to get the MT82 better. Does it get ride of the cold crunchyness as well?

don't I remember something about Redline MTL plus some additive being the fix of the MT82?

It helps a lot. I'd say ~60% better. Not a cure for all ailments, but this is the way it should have come from the factory.

Hmm, not sure about this. Was this an old thread? Sounds plausible, better fluid better results.

Yeah, it was at least a couple years ago, fairly soon after the MT82 came out and there was lots of chatter about the issues; IIRC the Redline MTL with some kind of additive was said to be at least a partial cure

I had similar improvement changing to Amsoil Syncromesh, however below 30ish degrees it's still crunchy on the first few shifts to 2nd...so I've gotten into the habit of skip shifting to third, or double clutching for a couple of shifts.


I'd gladly change mine again if someone finds the magic elixir.

I've had Royal Purple in my MT82 for almost 18k mi.now. I installed the Steeda shift bracket at the same time. I'm very satisfied with how it shifts now. Might install the Whiteline trans bushing someday though.

Just chiming in, although I don't have an MT-82, but when I went RP Synchromax in the TR-3650, dudes and dudettes, it was amazing. Shifting was sooo much better, immediately.

A convert, I am, to the point that when the axle bearing on the right hadda be replaced at 75K, I bought RP gear oil for the replacement (although I will say the Ford stuff that came out was nice and healthy, if stinky... but still. RP is in there too now.)

While ordering the Amsoil motor oil & filter earlier today, I had a strange hunch and added 3quarts of the 'Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid' from them. And now I find this thread ha!

What's the viscosity ratings on Royal Purple version? This Amsoil had 5W30 on it.

I have the 14-Revision MGW (before Race-Spec) and Whiteline Bushing on. Still notchy. Sometimes goes in gears clean, sometimes not. Most people talks about high-speed lockout improvements but what I intended to achieve was the 'clean' shifting. I hate notchyness feeling.

I usually buy Amsoil products since I can get them at a good price...curious to know if their offerings end up with similar results.

I also flushed my dif with RP Max Gear which is 75W-140. But I have no clue what sychromax viscosity is

So, here's the data sheets on the two liquids that'd be used:

The RPS is similar in Gravity (Density) (allegedly, as they don't list a degree like Pennzoil did, but one can assume so since the others are listed at the same temps), but is less viscous overall than Mercon, aka, it flows better at the same temps.

When the liquid is cold, *real* cold (-40C, btw, is -40F, so hecksa cold.) the RPS is going to flow better than the Mercon, it's 'thinner'.

And when the liquid is hot (100C) it's slightly less 'thick' than Mercon, and flows just a tad better.

I'm guessing compressibility and stickiness are about the same, or the transmissions would be blowin' the heck up with the not-spec fluid.

I was thinking about this thread this morning while grinding into 5th and 6th in these cold temperatures. Caught me so off guard shifting into 6th while driving economically...SCREETCH!!!

So far I ran roughly 300miles with Amsoil Transmission Fluid. Maybe my expectations were too great that my MT82 will shift like when applying Vaseline on my ***. Many seems to report immediate improvements but I don't feel all that different to be honest. Well, I got the Ams instead of RP but still. Maybe i should push the car harder.

There was this one time I ran out of toilet papers and so had to use paper towels.
