The Return of the 5-Litre...TT style
Thanks to Evil_Capri for pointing out this article, although its a bit dated...
http://www.thetorquereport.com/2007/...n_will_de.html
As much as I would have liked a large displacement BOSS in the Mustang GT....
a TT5.0L would ROCK!!!!!!!
And there was rumour a while back on SVTPerformance that a 5.0 was being developed...
http://www.thetorquereport.com/2007/...n_will_de.html
The Ford Mustang is going to receive a 5.0L TwinForce V8 and Ford's full-size pickups and SUVs will receive a larger 6.2L V8 with the same technology. The V8 engines will also have cylinder deactivation technology.
a TT5.0L would ROCK!!!!!!!
And there was rumour a while back on SVTPerformance that a 5.0 was being developed...

Come on, TT, its not like they're putting a TT I4 in the 'Stang. They're starting with a 5L V8, and then giving it the TT treatment. What's not to like?

Turbo lag is vitually non-existant with turbo efficiency/design these days. Impleller designs etc have made huge strides in this area. Trust me with the right exhaust you will hear the v-8. The beltdriven blowers are pretty loud.

....Not to mention turbos allow for an extraordinarily free flowing exhaust systems without having to worry about waking people two neighborhoods away when you fire here up in the morning. Also, a low pressure, torque happy 5.0L turbo V8 would be ridiculously tunable. No question you would get Terminator tunability and response, or better, for GT money. If Ford does this I am all over it. Take a look at what two turbos do for BMW's inline-6 powered 3-Series and then imagine the effect of doing the same thing to a 5.0L V8. You might only see a 20% increase in peak power over a naturally aspirated trim.....but the torque curve would be insane coming in full and strong down low and staying that way all the way to redline. And even assuming a low pressure setup is the approach Ford intends to take such a setup would be good for 400hp or more easily. I'm stoked.
That said. A TT V8 Mustang GT would leave plenty of room for a naturally aspirated, 5.0L V8-powered, LX budget model underneath it as well.

well if the TT 3.5L V6 is making 400hp, I would be the TT 5.0V8 would be conservatively tuned at what maybe 420HP from the factory in GT trim, and I bet that would be at low boost numbers like 5lbs. Turn it up to 15lbs and on a stock forged bottom end, skies the limit. I will wait for the SVT version myself...

......potential range of available engines for the 2010+ Mustang:
3.5L V6
3.5L V6TT
5L V8
5L V8TT
7L V8TT
..........I didn't think you would mind

If its to be rated at 400 - 415 in the Linc...
Wouldn't see it that low I don't think in the stang.
400 maybe...but again I don't think the 3.5 TForce is meant to be a high production ... maybe S/E
And from the sounds of it, the 5.0 could be a starter, and the 5.0TT could be either one of 4 things:
- Base GT engine (doubtful)
- Optional on GT
- S/E...or vehicle lower than Cobra/GT500 but higher than GT
- Cobra/GT500 car
I'm HOPING..... for the following:
- 3.5L V6 (TF S/E) 250n/a, 400 FI
- 5.0L GT (TF optional) 375-400NA, 425-450FI
- 6.2 na or TFSVT/GT500 525-600hp
Wouldn't see it that low I don't think in the stang.

I'd run the 5L N/A and the 3.5 TT as options for the same-level package, since they're likely to offer similar performance while giving the customer a choice between the two drivetrain packages at the same trim level. For the 5L TT, I'd create a new package that wouldn't be year-limited like an SE. Wonder what we could call it? GTR? GTT? Or should we take an SE name and make it a permanent package?

I'll be surprised if this 5.0 is ready for the 2010 Mustang. Plus, I bet the TT will be in the Shelby/Boss or whatever the top of the line Mustang is.
But, with GDI technology, the Mustang GT should be around 340-400hp. Can't wait!

Needs to be more Astony
mmmmm, twin turbo.....
I'm guessing the mustang GT. will come with a N/A 5.0 rated at about 375hp. There is no way they are going to put a 5.0TT in a base GT.
