Removal of lower plastic piece under engine.
 

Have any of you removed the lower cover under your engine on your 2011’s or 12”s ( the one you have to take off to change oil)
And if so did it affect any of the driving or give you a different feel? I was thinking about removing it and leaving it off. Will it void warranty if I do that?
Any thoughts?

Why would you remove something that's protecting the underside of your vehicle......?

my 2006 does not have it and i see no real reason why its there. if anyone can explain why its there and if there is a safety concern with removing it i would consider. otherwise its a burden and a waste in my opinion. if its important to protect something then hopefully ford will make one for the 05-09 mustangs too.

It doesn't really protect anything. More designed to reduce road noise.

Unless you're making a track car (maybe? no idea what the thing weighs), I don't see the point of going through the trouble of taking it off. I may be imagining it, but I thought it helped with streamlining the car...

Under body panels do provide some level of protection from different hazards that could mess up things under your car but more importantly it improves air flow under the vehicle, making it handle better in high wind situations as well as reducing under body lift and improves gas milage by smoothing out the air flow.

I believe it was motor trend about 10 years ago that had an article about how the Lexus GS300 was more aerodynamic than the C5 corvette because of all of the under body pinnings that the GS had and made it more stable at high speeds than the corvette and allowed it to hit high top speeds with relatively little horsepower in comparison.

That being said, will you die a slow painful death if you remove it, probably not, but you should leave it on.

So true, When I was living in Germany I saw a Jaguar on a lift that had from the back of the front wheels to the front of the back wheels was covered with a removal panel giving it a very smooth airflow under the car. I'd keep it on if for no more than to help keep dust and dirt from flying up and dirtying up the engine compartment.

I know another member debated removing it to speed up the process of changing his oil. Another member chimed in with some numbers showing the difference in airflow is minimal with or without. I'm sure if you searched you could find the thread.

I wish my car came with it. Complained to the salesmen it didn't. He quoted me $200.
