I noticed the other day that my oil life meter in the message center is stuck on 100%. I had my oil changed about 3000 miles ago, and it still says 100%. After trying to reset it, it remained stuck with no change after driving more. I haven't tried to pull the battery yet, but has anyone experienced this? If so, what was the remedy, if any?

Mine has been that way for 20k miles or so ... got 93k on car.

I'm rather pleased as I change mine every 10k and I was tired of the silly warning coming on when I was within 500 miles of changing it. I drive 400/wk, so it was always just the last week prior, but still annoying.

I'm at 73k myself and it just started. Could we be on to something? Have you tried anything to fix it?

I honestly would have no idea where to start as far as possibly "fixing it".

I assumed it worked based on engine / vehicle operating parameters that the computer kept track of. I guess it concerns me a little bit as it makes me wonder is anything else out of whack ??

But I don't notice any other running / driving performance issues so I'm ok with it.

I've had a pair of BMR rear sway bar links sitting in my basement waiting to be installed since May 2013 (& 28k miles) and finally put them on this weekend ... an hour worth of work and WOW, that obnoxious rattle in my back end is now completely gone !! This was much more annoying than the oil life monitor not working yet I put up with it for an extra 16 months !!

It's not stuck at 100%, but I've noticed a change in the behavior of the IOLM since I crossed 62k. At that point it got stuck at 75% for a while, then has been declining more slowly than in the past. It was even constant on a recent 1k+ highway trip. Prior to that it would seem to decline ~1% per 100 miles, so I seemed to get really close to 10k per interval.

It's not the first problem I've had with the IOLM. I had more that 40% life left when I had the first oil change done just short of 10,000 miles. Then it went from 100% to 0% in 5k. There was a TSB about it and the PCM was updated. The IOLM has been consistent up until recently. If there's another software update for this, will we have to pay for it if we're out of warranty?

Forget the indicator. Just change the oil at any interval that you want as long it doesn't exceed 10,000 miles max. I change mine every 5,000 regardless just for peace of mind.

After you press reset so it says =NEW, then you have to hold reset again for 2 seconds so it starts counting down.

I'm having the exact same symptoms. I had the TSB about the oil life monitor performed maybe 25,000 miles ago and it's worked fine until the last oil change. I reset it the way I do every time but it hasn't budged off 100% in over a month.

I change mine every 5000 miles anyways, but I like for everything to work properly.

So, after resetting it, hold it down for another 2 sec? Or are you just telling us how to reset it to 100%?

I just noticed my 2013 GT's oil life monitor recently started doing the same thing. Since the day I bought the car and even after I switched to full synthetic the OLM showed about 1% of oil used every 100 miles give or take, its been stuck on 67% for 3 days and I drive 40 miles round trip to and from work each day.

The OLM is for idiots so if it's broke and you're not an idiot then there's no problem.

I didn't know that anyone actually followed the OLM.

I can hit 10,000KM on my car and it will still hit around 40% life. OEM oil filters are rated for around 8k.... so.... OLM should really be ignored, I would hope!

I reset it after each oil change, but I don't use it to tell me when to do it. I shoot for oil and filter every 5000 miles. I also swap out the air filter with a fresh cleaned and oiled unit, and change the SC oil.

I never even look at mine unless the person who did the oil change forgets to reset it and it flashes a warning. I have oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles so the meter would not tell me anything useful.

Question: Why would ford make itself legaly liable if the OLM is not a accurate measure of oil life?

I mean if you only change the oil when the OLM tells you to and then something breaks due to the oil not being changed regularly enough then Ford is pretty much on the hook becase they are in a way saying, "Yes, this car can go 10k+ miles on one oil change and filter."

So if that is the case you better bet your last dollar that Ford had their engineers verify a million times that the OLM is accurate.

But it's not infallible. The computer is only basing it upon calculations dealing with time since the last change, mileage, RPMs, ect. The only way it would be able to know for sure if oil is good or not would be to do an oil analysis which the car is not capable of doing its self.

The OLM is an educated guess, but a guess none the less. Personally I do mine seasonally around 5k as to me it is not worth ruining your motor to save a few bucks. With that being said, I am sure there are thousands of people that rely on the OLM and go 10k+ with no issues.
