no oil filter?

Since i've had my '11 i haven't changed my own oil, usually just get it done at the shop. Now after my most recent visit im starting to think to do my own.

Last oil change he went over what was done and said, these engines don't have oil filters...when clearly they do....

ummm wow

Brandon302 Apr 9, 2013 12:00 PM

That sounds like you went to a real winner. ASE certified?

How many oil changes have you had without a filter change?

AzPete Apr 9, 2013 12:04 PM

I would look over all the past receipts and see if there was a filter listed. If not....maybe a lawyer would be the next stop....

rmurer Apr 9, 2013 12:44 PM

hm looks like i have some issues to address.

I'd be pissed, how many miles are on it?

Brandon302 Apr 9, 2013 12:49 PM

Even if you don't have receipts most places will keep a record. I would bring that up asap since that could be damaging your motor.

Thamac15 Apr 9, 2013 12:52 PM

I'm speechless. What did you tell him? I'm too ocd to have anyone work on my car other than me.

kcoTiger Apr 9, 2013 01:32 PM

Are you certain that's what he said? Seriously, I can't imagine someone who works on cars for a living being that completely oblivious to something as fundamental as an oil filter. Was it a dealership? Call the service manager. That's shocking that you'd hear that from a tech.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit. If someone just got into cars to make money and didn't really have an interest in them/it wasn't on a test than I bet they may think the oil filter's itself.

If true, imagine how many other cars are affected? :jaw:

Hopefully the OP misheard him or he just mispoke

This was the case. I stopped by and had the manager bring up the invoices and indeed the filter was being replaced. I'm certain he said something along the lings of an oil filter, the manager things me might of been talking about my air filter. He even had me pull in to check.

So either im getting old and hard of hearing or the tech mispoke.

Thank God. That would have sucked. Glad it worked out :nice:

Your car has an air filter as well.

Gabe Apr 9, 2013 03:28 PM

But it doesn't have a replaceable FUEL filter.

It's in the tank, with the fuel pump.

That's good to know. Maybe that's what the tech meant?

It's just like cigarettes. Who needs filters? Seriously you need to raise hell.

No no, we found out a while ago that it was just a miscommunication.
