One advantage GM has is that the Corvette crowd pays for a lot of the R&D that goes into making the Camaro a good affordable car. Ford doesn't really have something to eat the costs for the Mustang, making it harder to price competitively.

If we're going by looks alone,....................the S550 smokes the 6th gen Camaro. I would go with the S550 all day long. Just my opinion.

Sorry, was thinking of stuff like Hyundai Genesis, Subie WRX, BMW M stuff, Mercedes AMG stuff, etc. other performance vehicles that people would cross shop possibly or buy instead of the domestics didn't exist.

IF that's what were to happen, I seriously doubt it would be a cake walk for the Camaro.

For what it's worth, in my opinion, when the comparable variants of each mark are compared to each other, the Camaro and Mustang are so close in performance you could toss a blanket over them. Nobody really loses in this war! As you said Monster, it's a good time to be muscle car fan! The rising tide is lifting all boats!

John
The comparison to the one 1LE Camaro would be the track pack Mustang. The next Z28 would be the GT350 comparison, IMO.

So technically the Chief should say that the new SS 1LE will be faster than the GT PP. The problem is the stock SS already IS faster than the GT PP. So they have to aim higher.

The next Z28 is the contender against the GT350R.

The base SS is ~40k. The 1LE package will be another $6 or 7k. So if a $47k 1SS 1LE is in fact faster than a $55k GT350, that's a double win for Chevrolet. $63K 350R is not apples to apples with a $47k SS 1LE.

This pony war is great for everyone, I totally agree. I just hope Ford opens their eyes to the performance bargain benchmark these cars need to aim for.

I'll definitely deffer to you as I have not kept a close watch on performance levels and packaging details. I assumed a reasonable rough comparison the SS was comparable to the GT Track Pack -or whatever they're calling it this month-, 1LE comparable to the GT350R and the Z28 would be in the same league as the GT500.

...And no, Ford will never open it's eyes and is one reasons I have my sights set on the best bang-for-the-buck US made sports car...You know the one...lest I should mention its name and start a poo poo tossing contest.

I understand where your coming from as cars like the Genesis coupe, Subie WRX, BMW M and AMG are considered as performance vehicles, however IMHO I consider the WRX as a ricer and not even close to being in the same class or category as a pony car/muscle car like the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Charger..

The BMW M series and Mercedes AMG on the other hand, are more or less considered as being european luxury sport coupes, once again different class/category.. Anyway, just my opinion..

But my point is: if the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger didn't exist, what are you shopping for? For me, it's all that stuff I named, plus the Focus ST/RS, GTi, etc. The Chevy SS is dead so you're out of American RWD performance cars then and all you've got to look that's at all similar would be the stuff I named.

That would be up against the GT350/GT350R, once Chevy makes it official (bet that happens in January at NAIAS). I would guess they'll do something similar to the R too.

Kyle, I could say the same about the cars you posted, what if they also didn't exist, then what would you be shopping for ?

The point is however, the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger and Charger do exist and you know as well as I do the Mustang has existed for over 50 years, that's reality.. So what are we really debating here anyhow ?

As I posted before, all those cars you mentioned are considered as European luxury sport coupes that are in a different class/category when compared with muscle/pony cars such as Mustang, Camaro, Challenger and Charger..

Lol. I actually had to look back and find out what the heck started this in the first place. I guess it was me saying I'd take the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger over all those alternate performance cars I listed.

I think you're all a bunch of pussies with underpowered cars dreaming of driving what's in my garage.
