Mustang delayed until 2010; Boss engine, and Mercury version?

The Mustang redesign will be delayed until 2010, according to AutoNews.com.

From the story:

"Ford Mustang; Lincoln, Mercury coupes

The Ford Mustang will be restyled for the 2010 model year, one year later than previously planned.

The Mustang is likely to get a bigger engine developed under the Hurricane program. The main Hurricane engine is expected to have a 6.2-liter displacement, but a 5.8-liter is also possible. Ford could revive the Boss name to brand the engines.

Ford has pledged to keep the Mustang nameplate fresh by doing special versions each model year. The 2007 model year marks the debut of the Shelby GT500 coupe and convertible, powered by a 500-hp, 5.4-liter V-8. Production will be limited to about 9,000 units.

Designers have worked on a Lincoln coupe based on the Mustang platform. Planners also have considered a Mercury version of the Mustang. But it is unclear whether either vehicle will make it into the product plan."

Fine by me - I love the looks of the S-197 :)

Pitch Black 8/2/06 08:19 PM

so does this mean they'll quit production on the S197 for a few years??? or what??

Isn't Hurricane engine just for F-Series?

Ford could develop a rwd sedan from its Mustang platform or from a platform being developed in Australia, sources have said. In recent weeks, the case for Australia has strengthened.
I like the first part, spread that mustang goodness around, The stang doesn't need a proprietary chassis, that was one of the nails in the 4th gen F-bods coffin. It didn't share its chassis with any other GM vehicle.

I think the rumour is that the 2010 Mustang will come from the factory with a 5.8L motor or something crazy like that. I don't know if there is any truth to that particular statement at all. There is also rumours floating around about IRS standard (Since both Camaro and Challenger will have IRS)

Well if thats true, there goes the party! I wonder if it will be a bolt in affair or will there be extensive modifications done to the chassis to facilitate the installation of IRS??

AnotherMustangMan 8/4/06 05:48 PM

It'll bolt right up.

IRS was yanked .. but the chassis was built from the start to have one
This whole 'extensive cost and yada yada' is bull.

This time it was the other way around.... IRS first, Solid after
And they did an awsome job... no question. The 3 link is a marvel
Just imagine what the chassis would do with an IRS :)

As for the Hurricane... i have no doubts it will fit into the D2C platform
I'd love to see a 4.6 3v base GT, 5.4 3v option, 5.8L BOSS and 6.2L GT500 :)

See, I was right again:
