As the OP, I appreciate the comments, including those that seem slightly critical.
I love shifting this car and wouldn't have dreamed of buying an auto trans. But it does get a bit tiresome on the commute where I face 11 traffic lights in a 10-mile drive.
Admittedly, in recent weeks I've been trying to better my MPG, with gas at $4 a gallon around here, which accounts for me shifting at lower RPM. After reading some of the replies here last night, I drove home determined to not worry about MPG and shift no earlier than 3,000. To my surprise, I got the same mileage, so it seems that shifting early and often, as I was doing, wasn't helping me (and I wasn't enjoying the car as much). So I'm changing my strategy.

I'm not sure how you guys living in a metropolitan area do it but living in a big city like NY or Chicago doesn't inspire me to own a powerful car like a Mustang. All that power and you can't even go above 30MPH, stop light to stop light Granted if you can take you car out of that prison on weekends then it may be worth it but other wise I don't see the point. However if is the only car you like then you have to do what you have to do.

I Have No Life
And the clutch in the 11+ is SO much lighter and easier than the clutch in the 4.6
Which even hydraulic, is easier than most...but more resistance than the one they use with the getrag.
I'm so used to my 05, when I went to test out an 11 I almost pushed the clutch through the floor on the first attempt.

For goodness sakes get outta the rat race and find some back (or less congested) roads for your commute every now and again. Might take you a little longer and maybe use a little more fuel but I find driving a Mustang where you can wind it out and throw it around a bit to be the perfect antidote for any work related ailments!

OP - Silver with Brick interior - I GOTTA SEE SOME PICS!!!!! I thought the Sterling Grey with Brick would be the ultimate, but the silver sounds awesome. Pics please?
BTW, I am finding this discussion very educational. Great opening question and lots of great solutions.
I think I like the 3:73 + skip shifting solution - sounds like best of both worlds. Although I drove a 2011 GT with the 3:55 gears and it was re-donk-ulously fast. Can't wait to get mine with 3:73s.

These cars could easily have 3-speed transmissions and function nicely. I have 3.73 and frequently start in 2nd then straight to 5th around town. 1st, 3rd, 5th actually is pretty sporty. Only need 6th when on long stretch uninterrupted. Car has plenty of torque for 2nd to fifth; just have hold clutch for a sec as engine rev drops to match 5th before releasing.

What is all this talk of 3.73s? Get some 4.10s and you would only need 2nd to start and 5th once ur up to speed. Here is the difference in tranny gears from the old 5-speed to the new 6-speed in case anyone was interested.
2010
1st 3.38:1
2nd 2.00:1
3rd 1.32:1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.68:1
2011
1st 3.66
2nd 2.43
3rd 1.69
4th 1.32
5th 1.00
6th 0.65
I found it interesting that 4/5 in the new mustangs is identical to 3/4 in the 2010s. That being said I'm dropping 4.10s in my 2010 to give third more punch. Unless your doing forced induction don't fear the gear.
