Listen up Kona owners - have a question about maintenance

Is Kona as difficult to keep clean as black? Does it show the same swirl marks, scratches, etc.

Keeping it clean, probably just as difficult. Swirl marks, probably not, lots of metallic in it. Orange peel, you bet, haven't seen any domestic cars that don't, hazard of the paint process they use.

You'll appreciate the metallic in the paint down the road. Give the paint a much better look when clean. Depth of shine is awesome.

Have to agree. Friend has one and it is nowhere close to the trouble that a black car is. His looks great with just a rinse and wipe. Deep metallic paint job. That's why I ordered one.

I'd say it's more difficult to keep clean than most colors, but it is no way near as hard to keep clean as black is. Haven't washed mine for a week and it still looks clean, daily driven. I love my Kona Blue.

No, but I am careful not to do things that would cause them.

I will say the color is worth it.

to the above^!!

And all you guy ordering Red Candy better be getting a car cover or garaging that thing. I will never ever buy another Ford car with a metallic red paint job (especially with the tinted clear coats that they use). Redfire was different because they didn't tint the clearcoat, but Red Candy pretty much = Laser Red. And after 5-10 years, depending on exposure, the clear coat fades. And then it looks like chit.

I had navy blue metallic on my Z28 (similar to Kona) and it was almost as hard to keep clean as my black truck. Not quite as bad, but close.

Don't talk like that, you'll make me change my order again.

I plan on keeping a good coat of Klasse All in One and Sealant Glaze on my car, as well as storing it in an underground whenever I am not driving it.

You should be fine. My paint is 11 years old, and there is no bringing back that tinted clearcoat, short of repainting the whole car. If you're storing the car in the underground, you shouldn't have a problem. My car has been out in the sun every day for 11 years. Depending on where you are in the country, it doesn't take very long for the fading to start (if you don't have any products protecting the paint).

Well, you don't leave a coat of Klasse AIO on the car, but you're going to take the time to keep it up.

Kona is going to be similar to black. Proper washing methods apply to any color though. You're going to prevent swirl marks and spiderwebbing if you follow the proper wash methods. You'll just see them easier on a car like black or Kona because of the color. If you can't deal with that, get something like silver or Race Red.
