I've let us down... sorta

I went to the local test and tune tonight. Apparently I was the first 5.0 the track has seen, the announcer got all excited, the crowd got all excited. And my first run...

14.0 @ 98

UGH! TERRIBLE!

Track temp was up near 96 which didn't help, I spun the tires in both first and second, and then went to 5th gear WAY too early. All-around just a big charlie foxtrot.

Second run, I'm determined to redeem myself. I launch pretty well in first... the tires chirp just a bit... and then CLUNK. The traction control was still on! Wow what a retard I am. I'm determined to pull out of it, so I drop to second and the rest of my shifts are pretty good. I ride the limiter in 4th through the trap, but my terrible start means I'm at the limiter WAY too early.

13.9 @ 100

Ok, now I'm ready to shoot myself.

Finally, last run, I pull up next to a 2008 Mustang GT with some decent mods and racing slicks. Dudes talking a lot of trash. The track temp is now down near 85. I let it slip in first, determined to hook in first gear. Next to me the dude pulls hard on those drag slicks.

Second shift.... perfect.... starting to pull on him...

Third shift.... a little slow, but I'm just about past him now....

Fourth gear I ****ing WALK the dude. I touch the limiter right as I hit the trap...

13.4 @ 108

He runs a 13.9 @ 106. That I can live with.

I just know theres more in the car. Overall I learned just how inexperienced I am with this car. But what a fun night.

I would probably stall it at the line. Don't worry about it.

Does your slip show show your 8th mile time as well? If so, can you post a pic of your slip?

3.73's

I must say on that last run, I touched the limiter in 3rd and 4th. Which probably hurt me by ~0.2 sec. With this gearing, pushing the rev limiter another 500 would go a long way.

Yea I've got my slips. Which one you want to see? (Dont say the 14.0 )

The 13.4 was...

Code:
Reaction 0.102
60ft 2.20
1/8 8.75 @ 85
1/4 13.4 @ 108

Thanks, just trying to get an idea of what I'd be running if I got a chance to run a full quater mile. My local track only runs the 8th.

That's really not bad for the first time at the track. There is a LOT of potential there just in the 60 ft. Practice, practice, practice....that car will run 12's as it sits once you get accustomed to it.

In good air these cars are going to be trapping 113 mph and thats going to be close to 115 mph at the finish line.
6850 rpm is going to be 115.1 mph (Assuming the 761.9 rpm for the 18" All-Season like its M+S predecessor) with the 3.55 Gears.

Ive seen several different quotes for tire rpm on the Pirelli Summer Tires. 763 rpm appears to be taken from the OEM M-B XL. Thats a different tire from the OEM Ford SL. Ive also seen 771 rpm quoted which I suspect might be right as these tires seem to have a larger rear fender gap than my 18's and one of the mags quoted top speed in 4th as 108 mph (Which matches with the fact he hit the limiter right as he reached the traps and trapped 108 mph).

If you raise the rpm limiter and tune the car at the same time (Whos going into the PCM and only raise the limiter?) you will likely add about 2 mph (More if you buy some of the higher numbers which I dont) so you are going to have to raise the limiter at least 500 rpm for mineshaft air. Actually that might still be a little short as Im coming up with 7400 rpm @ 117 mph (115 mph trap speed) with 3.73. I suspect many will be to conservative to do this and end up using fifth.

A 108 mph pass is a 12.7 on 1.8 60'. If she was on the limiter from the beginning of the traps that would have been a 110 mph pass. That means cut a 1.8' 60', hit the powershifts and even in 85 degree weather you have a 12.6 car.

PS that 2008 should have went 12.7 on a 1.7 with that 106 and slicks. He must have bogged big time.

Getting better with each run is a plus I did that the last 2 times at the track. Your 60ft will make a difference for sure. I've got my V6 at 2.1x 60fts right now, but I still can probably do better. You'll learn more about your car and what works/doesn't work for you at the track with each run. Where to launch, how to launch, trying to remember to turn off TC (I forgot last time).

Oh and people talking trash at the track is always fun I've made a few people upset/embarrassed out there that think a girl can't drive, and underestimate the new sixxer. I've got a little fan club at our 1/8mi track haha. Would love to take it to the 1/4 someday.

60ft time is definitely the problem.

I'll be taking my car to a track soon, but unfortunately the 1/4 mile track closed So all I have locally is 1/8.
