Hurst shifter

Anyone bought this one yet?

http://www.cjponyparts.com/hurst-shi...t-2011/p/MS12/

I had decided to order a Barton, but I stumbled onto this tonight. It doesn't look like the old Sema pics. Think this one has a reverse lock out?

Don't see any tab for the reverse lockout.

Unless it is internal in the box around the shifter pivot, then I don't think it has one.

Have you looked into the shifter from Joe Heck Racing?

You can get the shifter, shift **** and the solid mount for $210.

American muscle has them in stock:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/barton...fter-mt82.html

They are out of the bracket right now, but if you order from Barton direct, and send a copy of your receipt, he'll give you the $50 price that is the combo price.

Any news on the MGW shifter for the MT-82? Their site says nothing about it.

I emailed MGW a few weeks ago. They said they should be coming out pretty quick and that they are taking names and deposites on them now. I can't remember what they told me they cost.

this is from another post about MGW:

hey guys,

just wanted to let you guys in on some info as i am getting close to finalizing the testing and design of our 2011 shifter.

first... the THROW....

as you guys know that have your cars already the new stock tranny is kinda odd in that the side to side travel is VERY short while the front to back is not as short as it should be but close....

this is just the way it was designed sooo...i originally designed the shifter much like our corvette shifters to have a double pinion design rather than a pivot ball to shorten the throw front to back and not side to side...i was shooting for about 30-35 percent reduction in throw....

NOT A GOOD IDEA...

apparently the new tranny that ford is using is not as robust as the TREMEC was and we have found that anything more than about 15-20 percent reduction in throw is going to have issues with lockout and also wear on the synchros of this transmission. i have been testing and researching this transmission for a LONNGGGG time and talked with various engineers on this project so i am VERY firm on my opinion of this.

after trying countless combinations of shifting throws i decided that to be honest the THROW of the oem unit is not that bad and actually for both roadcourse and drag racing the effort is pretty spot on...

BUT.where the factory unit falls flat on its face is DEFLECTION!!! it is HORRIBLE!!! the stock box UNDER the shifter has to be replaced and the rear support bracket is a joke!!! it has zip ties around a rubber mount for petes sake!!!

so in the end what i am designing is going to be basically a 15-20 percent reduction with ADDITIONAL spring back to neutral for the drag racers out there. with a COMPLETE replacement to the entire unit under the boot.

so if you guys are hung up on a super short throw then you might want to look elsewhere BUT i can assure you the shifting will be faster with our setup

stay tuned for more info and pics around the holiday break!!

george

Basically just what Steeda and Joe Heck Racing have come up with, 20% throw reduction and higher bias centering spring.

I've got nothing against MGW, but is sounds like they were trying to say that shifters like the Barton could shorten the life of the syncros. Am I correct in that assessment? Anyone with a Barton notice any additional wear?

That is exactly what he is saying. Those with the Barton will come in here now and defend it to the death. But unless they have opened their transmission up and inspected the parts, there is no way for them to confirm or deny George's opinion. And personally, I'll take the opinion of George over most of the knuckleheads on this site. He knows his stuff which is why 90% of "which shifter should I get" threads from the last decade plus have filled with "MGW".

He is almost done with the shifter, it is in production. He is about to send out 50 test units to volunteers who signed up. After a few weeks of feedback from the testers, George will make the necessary alterations and the shifter will be released.

How does the MGW shifter compare to others like Steeda, Barton, JHR, etc. when it comes to NVH? Are any of these as good, or better, than the stock shifter in that area?

I've never owned one (sadly), but I know the shifter comes with sound and thermal insulation. I am also hoping that the new shifter will offer the same **** placement adjustability of past units.

Thanks for the help. I'd like to improve the car where I can & yet keep it livable, the gf will not put up with the car being noisy or uncomfortable.

Call me an idiot but I don't understand the need for reverse lockout. Someone explain this to me.

People worried about not paying attention and accidentally shift into reverse while moving forward? Only thing I could really think of....

I could see that if to get to reverse it was like the T-56 but you have to push down the shifter and go all the way into reverse to the far left side of the shift pattern. If this is the case then I will hold my opinion of those that have trouble with this.
