Goodyear or Pirelli?
 

I am going to buy a take off set of 19" Brembo Trak Pak wheels and tires for my 2014 base GT. I have a choice of Goodyear or Pirelli tires, which is the preferred brand? The Pirelli's on my car are noisy so I am hopping to get away from that. Not a daily driver, summer nice days only.

Do the Goodyears, between the choice. They're a better all season and, from what I've heard, quieter than the Pirellis (which suck...I have them).

Anything other than Pirelli, they are the worst.

Goodyear's for sure. I have 2 mustangs and I have GTs on one. of the two Good Years. I am putting Coopers zeons on my other.

My 2014 just turned 13K miles and I've noticed the Pirellis are making noise. It sounds almost like wheel bearing roar which I know is not the case on a brand new car. The car still grips and handles well but the road noise is pretty annoying.

Personally I would go with the Goodyears. When my tires wear out I will not be using Pirellis again. I will either go with Goodyear Eagles or Firestone Firehawks. I had a set of Firehawks on another car that I owned and they turned out to be good tires.

You found them on EBay? Just got a set from Roush on Ebay. I put snow tires on my stock TP wheels. I happen to really like the TP/Brembo wheels so I bought another set for summer. Went with the P Zeros. I have my original ones with under 2500 miles so now I have a full back up set of tires. Deal was to good to pass up. As far as road noise I can't hear the tires over the Roush Axlebacks and Boss Side Pipes:-)

What do people not like about the Pirelli's? I've driven maybe 7k on mine, about 500 of those as track miles, and have found them quite grippy, they have not chunked at all, are very predictable for breaking away... they wore a little quicker than I would have expected but not bad.

I can't speak to wet performance, as I basically don't take the car in the wet, and I can comment that in the cold they are like hard plastic, but that's expected for a summer tire.

That said, I had Goodyear's as my track tires on my previous car and loved them. Very good grip, excellent wear.

I agree they do grip well. Mine still grip well with 13K on them. Give them another couple thousand miles and you'll likely start hearing the road noise people are talking about. It gets pretty annoying after awhile.

The things you don't like are exactly what we don't like about them lol. And I daily my car, even in the rain. In rain and cold, they're useless. And even at 8500 miles, they're a LOT louder than when it was new. I'd rather have a higher performance all season like the Pilot Sport A/S 3, in a 275/40 too.

I've never had a set of Goodyears that I liked. Sooooo... Pirellis.

I love the Goodyear RS-As myself.

Also does anyone know the specific Goodyear P255/40/19 that came on the 2014 Trak Pak wheel? Was it one of these: Goodyear Eagle® F1 Asymmetric or the Goodyear Eagle® F1 SuperCar? or?

I didn't know the Track Pack car came with a tire that good. That's a serious tire. Not an all season tire to be sure, but for grip and g's under optimal conditions that's about as good as a tire gets.

My Track Pack came with Pirelli's. The earlier GT500's came with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar though. 255/45/18 front and 285/40/18 rear. The 285's are quite cheap on Tirerack... I've been considering a set of 4 to run a square street tire setup on my other set of track wheels for when I'm not wanting or able to run slicks

haha ok well that makes sense then! I guess I'm lucky to have my Grand Cherokee as a cold/rainy/cloudy/less-than-perfect day car ;) And my (so far) bullet-proof tow vehicle

I find the All Season Pirelli's in my V6 package are amazingly grippy in the summer. They slide a bit in the rain, but only when I purposely do something stupid.


In the winter, I wouldn't know - I don't drive on hockey pucks. Winter tires for this DD, and I can play safely all winter (i.e. do reasonably stupid things much more safely).

Autos weren't available with Track Pack. Brembo Package only, and they were Eagle F1s, same tire as the 07-09 GT500 and I believe base GT500 from 10-12.

Hell of a tire. Gotta give Ford props for putting that good a tire on the car.
