Exhaust repair Question

The rear hanger on one of my axle backs tore off the muffler. The design wasnt good, because they welded the hangers to the thin "skin" of the exhaust instead of the pipe. The new design the hangers are welded to the pipe. Because it was dangling the front hanger is breaking free as well.

I took my car to a local muffler shop and the guy said he could not repair it. I was asking if he could fabricate hangers to weld to the pipe like the newer design. He said that there is a large hole on top of the muffler that he couldnt repair. So I didnt get repaired.

His recommendation was to get a new set of axlebacks. Which I'd prefer not to do but may need to.

Should I go to another muffler shop and get a second opinion or bite the bullet and get a new set of axle backs?

I have had these about 4 years so they are 2 years out of warranty.

Looking for your thoughts. Thanks!

As far as I know, there is not a good way to repair a hole in the muffler. New axlebacks are in your future.

I put a set of Kooks on mine last year and have been really happy with them. They look and sound really good.

I got them on last night. They have a nice deep tone, slightly more quiet than my previous mufflers. They look really nice. No drone so that is a big plus.

What brand did you have on before, that had the bad hangers?

Also, any video clips of the new set-up, maybe a pic?

There's a chance I might be changing axlebacks soon, so I'm looking into options again

I believe they were "made" by kooks. The new ones the hangers are welded to the pipe itself. Much more sturdy.

Here is the old where they had welded the hangers to the 'skin' of the muffler. The left one in the rear gave out first, and when it first happened I had a guy weld the one back on but it did not last and then all 3 gave out.

Attached from underneath the car.

looking from the rear. I may need to adjust the one on the right it wants to
toe in toward the center of the car.
