excessive rear tire outer wear

Had new micheline pilot super sport 5k miles ago, did a visual check on the tires today getting ready to rotate them. I noticed both rear tires outer edge is almost down to the wear bar. The center has about twice less wear and the inside showing normal wear about twice less wear than the middle.

Doesnt seem like toe issue since rear is not adjustable and my last alignment didnt show anything abnormal.

Is it just one side or both? Any chance your axle shaft is a bit bent?

Both rear tires the same, i thought of that too but didnt see anything bent visually. I dont experience vibration, wobble or noise either.

It's the design of the tire, not wear. These had 6K on them when this picture was taken.

Youre saying the wear bar is a design? But my front two tires wear bar are all even.

Post some pics so I can see what you're talking about.

That's not a Pilot SS.

What is your tire pressure ? Sounds like you need to run higher, maybe :).

Bert 11/6/17 09:19 AM

The wear looks fairly even in the picture; is that the actual tire in question or just an illustration of what a wear bar is?

If the edges are wearing more than the middle, like David said, that suggests that the tire pressure is a bit low.

tire wear like you stated is really weird unless the axle has been bent in some way or bearings are going out. I would think if the bearings were wearing out the inside of the tires would be wore more than the outside. Maybe jack the rear up and give the tires a spin to see if they are turning freely and evenly with no wobble.

as stated above its a google image, also under inflation cause both shoulder to wear not just one
yea its very weird tell me about it, my last alignment in march showed rear all in spec
LR camber -.01 and RR is 0
LR toe- .01 and RR toe .02
specs normal, no accidents, noise or vibration to indicate axles are bent.

With that kind of wear that would mean i have positive camber in the back lol and the axle tube or housing bending upward to get that. Eariler i crawled under the back of the car and used a text book under the axle tube checking for bent but seems straight.

Anyway i rotated the tires today, and took a pic of it.
