Most likely because since it's a federal mandated thing it's probably already written in your insurance policy now that by having coverage you agree to release the data in the EDR at anytime.

So basically they will probably get in the practice of $crewing us all in a small little "bump" when they see that you were doing 27 in a 25.

I don't think this is being pushed by insurance companies. I've been in the auto body repair / insurance business for 8 years now and not once have I heard of an EDR being requested or of a single claim ever being denied due the EDR. I'm sure it's happened, but claims aren't being denied due to traffic violations.

Btw ,I had a conversation with a Retired Police Detective and Mustang Owner BTW. who Has Had Some Experience with the Black Boxes and The Legal System. I have Invited him to Comment. Should be Interesting Info if he Chooses to participate.

Not that I have even voted.....but that's an easy question....An older model car, not everyone has to have a brand new car .

Of course, but most people looking to purchase a new car aren't trying to decide between a 2010 Mustang or a 1992 Caprice.

What I'm asking is - what car competitive to a 2010 Mustang doesn't have an EDR?

Edit: Jeesh Paul, I never looked at your sig before. You've got quite a collection w/ lots of EDR alternatives.

Well, not necessarily true....I have a few customers that could buy a new Mustang as a toy or get any variation of an older one to play with. So if the decision is for a play toy then it could have an effect.

Yes, I have WAY too many projects....and none of them have anything to do with EDR

Just rip it out. Its your car. Who cares.
If ya don't want it. Can't it be removed. What about cars that are modded for track. Take it and throw it.

I remember reading that the EDR data is VERY VERY RARELY ever pulled. The data is only used when:
1) People are killed because of the accident
2) AND Witnesses/drivers/passenger's reports of the accident do not agree with eachother or the evidence (i.e., someone is probably lying to get out of a vehicular manslaughter conviction)
3) Then, in those rare circumstances, the EDR data is actually pulled and investigated to find out the truth.

(but having said that, I am completely against an even more intrusive logger.. if it's a significant increase in privacy breach, I'm sure somebody will come out with a hack or a way to disable it)

I don't like it either, but - just to play devil's advocate...

Is it all bad? What if you're in a situation when you're driving down the road and hit an elderly woman who stumbles across the street? Now, you're the one in the flashy Mustang and the only witness says that you were flying down the street and never even hit the brakes. The evidence shows that the witness is correct because your anti-lock breaks activated and no skid marks were left. The elderly lady dies and you're looking at losing your home in a lawsuit and going to jail. Nobody mentions that the lady had dementia and walked into the street without warning.

Wouldn't this be a nice time to have independent information saying that you were traveling at the speed limit, with 5% throttle applied, and then immediately switched to full brakes?

+1. I'm all about taking responsibility for my actions, but I'm not comfy with it.
