Best mod to get under 14 sec 1/4 mile.
 
Hello, I have now owned my 2011 Gt for a year. Ever since I went to the drag strip for the first time ive wanted to get under 14 secend. I've seen videos of stock mustangs(same year) in the mid 12's. I dont know if its because Im at elevation(5280) or something's not quite right. I
Guess im trying to ask what mod will benefit me most with out breaking the bank. My best time was 14.056 than I added an exhaust Wich I did not really think would do much for me in the performance area and as I thought didn't do anything. I always see what products will do in terms of HP and torque but never 1/4 mile time. So if anyone has had luck with any lower budget mods I would love to here it!

What was your 60ft time? Auto or manual?

Its your elevation :( . I'm at 400 feet and my 2011 v6 runs in the low 13's :)

The cheapeast way to drastically lower your ets is n2o. Other than that tires slicks if manual, but you can get away using drag radials if auto.

I was running high 9's low 10's at Bandimere and the same car was running 8.5 at Pomona in Southern California, so altitude has some to do with it.

Ya, your elevation is not helping your ETs but, a tune plus driver mod should get you in the 13's no problem.

OP like previously mentioned, auto or manual. Also, is your only goal to get under 14's or do you want to get even lower? Current mods? What do your slips look like? What does your suspension consist of?

Probably 1/8th mile times

It wasn't in a v6 Mustang .....

I was not talking V6, blown 429 in a special built 72 Gran Torino drag car back in the early 80's. I had a pretty quick 73 Cougar also.
It just happened to be the only example I myself had at the same altitude.

My friend with an 2013 GT auto can do 13.1's all day. So if you have an auto, something is wrong with the car, unless you arent putting your foot all the way down. If you have a manual, you're probably launching at too high of an RPM and spinning. Even if you don't launch it, the car should run at least mid 13's.

In addition to transmission type it would be useful to know the actual racing weight and 1/4 mile trap speed. The ET is highly chassis dependent ie. traction. Trap speed is mostly weight and horsepower. Typically these cars have trap speeds ranging from a low of 108 to a high of 112 for showroom stock cars at 2,000 ft. or less. There are plenty of horsepower calculators online or otherwise. Once you know the actual race weight [ this includes the driver ] and you have the trap speed you can determine the horsepower at the wheels fairly closely. Close enough at least to know if you're seriously down on power or not. I don't know off hand just how much power loss typically occurs at your altitude, but I am sure there are math formulas for determining that as well. Once you do all this you'll know if you have an engine power problem or not.
