How are you feeling about them?

I haven't driven the 3.55's or 3.73's, but I can't imagine this car feeling like it has any more power. I got 27.5 MPG when highway cruising, but I rarely drive on the highway.


I am so in love with this car, especially the premium package. I love the Shaker, leather, ambient lighting, rear, cam, power it has at >3000 RPM.


I hear 3.73s can actually improve city fuel economy because of shifting earlier. I do 90% of my driving city (stop lights literally every 100 yards).

I hate them.

I made the mistake of driving a Brembo car with the 3.73s, and WOW - what a difference. It's like a completely different animal. Can't wait to install them in my car! I think it's BS you can't get them in the vert, or that would have been a "no compromise" option for me.

I have the 3.31's in my 2010 GT and I like them. I haven't driven a car with the 3.73's, if I did I might change my mind.

The way I see it, I'd rather have a nice tall 5th than a really short 1st gear. In between I don't think it makes much difference because you are going to pick the gear that best matches the situation anyway.

I can get 27+ MPG on my mixed highway/backroads commute thanks to that relatively high 5th gear. I have heard that 1st is nearly useless in the new 6 speed and 3.73's, though I doubt the 3.73's would make that much difference with my 5-speed.

I don't buy the argument that you get better city mileage with the 3.73's. Think about it -- you are going to rev the engine up to a certain point and then shift; for gas mileage you want a lower average RPM/distance traveled; are they saying that you are going to shift at a lower RPM with the 3.73's than the 3.31's? I doubt it, since the whole point of the 3.73's is to keep the revs up higher.

If I was going to drag race the car I might change my mind, but for a daily driver I'm happy with the 3.31's.

I've had 4.10's in my 2003 which is daily driven and I have never missed really having a 1st gear...

I hate them. I cant wait to get them out. I am waiting for the ford power package so my dealer can swap them out.

6th gear is absolutely useless at any speed less than 80 mph. A Yugo has more passing power.

And since most of my time is between 60 and 70 I find myself always in 5th. So MY gas mileage is around 18 mph. I should see much better fuel mileage with 3.73 or 4.10's Just because 6th gear should become useful.

And I have no problem cruising on the highway in 6th at 65mph. Sure I have no passing power, but I don't really need to pass. I'm happy getting almost 28mpg.

If you need to pass then downshift.. it's more fun!

It's not that there's more power, but the homeboys that have the higher gear are in a far better rpm band. And through that those homeboys then have a higher hp/tq feel. All in all it gives the homeboys with them to feel more spirited driving.

But it's like the fellow homeboy stated, you're going to pick a gear that matches the situation best, so unless you're a homeboy that floors it light to light... there's no real advantage in a lot of stop light traffic.

I think the 4.6 5spd should have 3.73's. I love mine! 1st gear is plenty useable around town. 3rd gear tops 100 in the qtr. The gears are just right for 2 lane twisties. I get 27 @65 on cruise.

But I still think the 5.0 6 spd should have 3.55's for a similar experience to 3.73's in the 5 spd.

It is the Ford racing tune. Basically a very safe tune that my dealer can install and not touch the warranty. It also allows them to change the gear ratios and tire sizes and such.

1st gear in the 3.73 car was more than useable, even for a daily driver. It was 2nd and 3rd where I seemed to notice the biggest improvement.

Do all dealers have this? When it is available? Is this a website with information? I totally want a tune but I'm paranoid about the warranty.

I actually like mine.. just seems like a smoother ride. And power delivery seems more linear IMO.. I've had modular Mustangs with 4:10s, 3:55s, and 3:73s. Of the three the best bang for the buck were the 4:10s, but I actually preffered the 3:55s for overall daily use. The 3:31s are close enough considering we have 6 gears now..

So far 3.31 is pretty dad gum quick. 12.5 Showroom Stock.

One car with Steeda CAI and Tune was trapping 115.5 in 90F 90% Weather!
Added a set of Nittos and went 12.2 @ 114+ on a 1.78.
Thats an 11 second car with ET Streets and Fall weather.

Car is plenty quick. Except when you are in 6th gear doing 65 on the highway. Sometimes you just dont feel like downshifting. One would think with 412 horsepower you wouldnt need to. It s at the point now were I very rarely use 6th gear at all. Which is killing my mileage considering I go about 60 highway miles a day.

It is more about how you drive and getting the power were it is good for you. I dont really think + or - .01 in the quarter mile matters to most of us.

I have 3.31's.... and won't change because it's the best gear for autocrossing, which is what I do with my car for fun--and I daily drive it. Showed up 6/19, and I've got 2500+ miles on it.

Setting aside the fact on my race tires, 2nd gear is way too short with 3.73's and iffy at best with 3.55's, I really like the gearing overall with the 3.31's. Great cruising, the engine has good power in lower gears. I don't regret it.
