2014 Mustang windshield trim piece flew off

1 Attachment(s)
Took a trip over the 4th in my wifes new 2014 GT/CS convertible and had one of the small black windshield trim pieces fly off. Its about a 3" strip of black rubber to cover the body seam on the windshield frame on the top corners. I would imagine the adhesive let go in the 107 degree temps and 80mph speeds.

Called the dealer and they weren't sure if this was the right part: 5R3Z7603080-AAA and they want $52.45 for it.

Im hoping someone here may be able to confirm the part before its ordered, as they are unsure.

Wow, that's a pricey piece. Your part number has an extra 2 in it. It should be 5R3Z7603080AAA.

That's what has me wondering if its the correct piece or not.

Are you out of Warranty? I would ask them to Warranty it if you are not. You did not break it off. If parts fall off of a car on their own I would push for them to cover it myself. Worst they can say is No... May be worth it for that price!

No, car only has 11,000 miles on it. We've had it for a month, havent even made our first payment on it. I just assumed it wouldn't be under warranty so I didnt push it...i also thought it would be much cheaper part and not worth the trouble. But now, for a $50 piece of molded rubber it might be worth it. That $50 could go towards my exhaust instead.

Edited for a more direct link.

Thanks for finding that. Looks like the dealer is charging me full MSRP.

SpectreH 7/8/15 12:54 PM

I corrected my link for a more direct path to the part.

Be careful, sometimes you leave the dealer with more problems than you went there for.

They say they can't warranty the part because I don't have it. They need to see the part to verify it was bad. Go figure.

11,000 on a 2014, haven't made a first payment yet, part flies off, and they can't warranty it. :screwy:

Calling Deysha.....

I called Ford's Customer Service line and was told the same thing. Can't warranty it if I dont have the part to prove it was faulty. The fact that it fell off should be the proof that its faulty!

So, I stopped by the local dealer, ordered the part so I can get it put back on the car. Ill have it tomorrow.

Drove from Spokane, WA to Portland, OR. Stopped in the Tri-cities, WA to top off with gas, clean the bugs off the windshield, and make the final drive on to Portland. The piece was on the windshield then when I cleaned the windshield. Temps were around 105 degrees in the tri-cities. Crossed over in to Oregon and made 1 bathroom stop (kids in the car)....wife stayed with the baby in the car. So, I know that nobody came by to steal the piece from the car like the dealership said could happen, and why Ford doesn't replace items that are missing. So maybe I should drive the 3.5 hours between Portland and Tri-Cities and look for a $50 3" piece of rubber that should not have fallen off a car with 11,000 miles.

You can tell by the adhesive residue that it was barely on to begin with.

Just ranting! :D

This is one of those things that a little common sense, on Ford's part, would go a long way in creating customer loyalty. Not just with the OP, but with everyone reading his post here. Instead, it further creates an adversarial relationship. Way to go Ford(over a $50 part, no less).

Maybe Deysha can work her magic for you?... But unfortunately it may be a hassle...

Exactly, and that's $50 MSRP. Their cost is WAY less, even if they were to have just given me the new piece I have no issue putting it on. Just leaves a bit of a bad taste. If the car were 3, 4 years old sure, but 11,000 miles and a 2014? Come on. Like I've mentioned, we haven't even made our first payment and I've already had to pay for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place. Makes me even question that extended warranty we bought.

It's only a $50 part, but it's more the principle of it that gets me.

Another example of Ford alienating their customers, and some dealers operating without common sense. Luckily I know my dealer and service manager well and if this ever happened to me this of course would be under warranty, $50 or $5000. That's just ignorant to not have that covered because you don't HAVE the piece. It F'ing blew off on the highway, you morons. Geesh.

Sorry OP. If I were you I'd push for that part to be purchased and installed on ford's dime. Deysha has common sense. She'll chime in here.

Things like this make me really think twice about getting another Ford.

I understand where you’re coming from, and they are correct about the part, kjdavis. However, I recommend you speak with your service manager about this. He’s in the best position to look into this and talk pricing with you.

If they refuse to cover it, I'd order the part for $38 at the link I found. I would not give your dealership money for this repair. I'm so glad my one and only dealership visit went well.

Well, the dealership I got it from thought it was BS as well, gave me a "deal" at $40 for the part, so I didnt pay the full $52.

But, here's my $40 piece of plastic:

Thanks for the response Deysha, I appreciate it.

I picked up the part today, just not worth the trouble now that I have it. Just irritating even now that I have the part in my hand, thin piece of plastic that probably costs Ford 25 cents.
