2014 Mustang Automatic Transmission holing back power?
 

This is driving me crazy. It feels like the engine is purposely holding back power until around 3,000 RPM's. Also, doesn't allow me to rev above 2,000 RPM's when holing down the brake so I can't even peel out. ALSO, when I rev in neutral and put it into gear it waits till the RPM's go all the way down to apply any power. This is really pissing me off that I am being robbed of all this power that I paid for. I am strongly regretting not getting the standard. Is there any way to bypass this without getting it tuned? I am leasing so I don't even think I am allowed to do that. I had more fun driving my 98 Civic HX standard than this car cause at least I could peal out really well. :mad:

Wow...you're mad because the car won't let you do neutral drops? It's like that to protect itself from idiots doing stupid **** that will destroy it...

Well that was just my last resort in trying to get a peel out, I'm more frustrated by the first two. Flooring it from stop gets a really slow start off the line, I don't know why it holds back so much until 3000 RPM's. My dad's FJ cruiser jumps off the line faster and it is an automatic as well. Stat's say mine has more HP and torque so i'm thinking it's def the computer.

Stupid question... You are turning off the traction control correct?

I searched all over the internet and someone haven't found anyone mention this. I can't be the only one to notice. I did find something about holding down the traction control for more than 5 seconds to turn off the 'brake-on engine rev limit' but looks like it only works on the 2013 and below cause I tried that already.

Isn't that the same as Traction Control?

This is an interesting problem. The nice thing about automatics is that you can mash the throttle and just hold on. Would be no fun if you cant do that.

Also, If you're driving the 3.7 that may also be your problem.

Everyone is right it's hard to get the v6 to peel out. I thought is was my massive tires.

GTs get three modes -- Traction Control / Sport Mode / Stabilitrac-Traction Control.

If you have a v6? then you're gonna need a tune. For having all that horsepower the v6 is pretty much neutered compared to a GT. I had a '13 automatic v6 convertible as a loaner one day over the summer, and god did that car suck. I could NOT WAIT to get my own GT back. Not just the horsepower difference, but the cheap top, cheap interior, abysmal automatic with grandma gearing, and yeah, can't even spin the tires.

A 500 shot will do wonders...

I have an automatic and have no problems breaking the rear loose :). But if you have the v6 don't expect a drag car burnout.

Funny, My 500 doesn't have this problem...

Keep in mind that the loaner you had was more than likely equipped with the basic interior. Even a GT can be ordered with the crappy cloth seats and dismal door panels. I doubt any loaner is going to be "a top of the line" model. Keeps the theft down.

Adding a tune to the V6 wakes it up significantly, especially in the area of the shift points of an automatic.

Doesn't the GT 5.0 share the same automatic as the V6?

Torque management FTW! As others have said its a strategy to help keep warranty issues in check.

To the OP, get a tune and install a gear and just realize you wont have a powertrain warranty after the tune but it should defeat whatever protection strategy is on the car now.

@ Ibnzmonkey, the current V6 (while it might not have the torque of the 3v 4.6) makes as much power as the 05-09 V8s, I don't think the issue is with the 3.7 V6
