2014 GT Rear End Rebuild at 12,000 miles??
 
Any similar experiences or insight would be appreciated..... 2014 GT w 12,700 miles - started loud road noise about 500 miles ago - from reviews on OEM Pirelli Pzero's I thought sure it was 3 1/2 year old tires, maybe drying and hardening after 3 1/2 years, even with low miles (garage kept) - my wife the school teacher's car (seriously). So I installed new Michelins over the weekend and noise remained. Dealer today says whole rear end - all bearings and gears will need replacing. Fortunately, 5 yr/60 mo drive train warranty will cover, but w 12,000 miles the rear-end needs a complete rebuild??


REALLY??? Anyone else had similar issue??? That just doesn't seem like a good omen on a car that rarely sees anything north of 65 mph....

Not very common but it does happen. Let the dealer fix it and don't worry about it. My 14 GT has over 30k miles, and 13 track days on it and the back end is just fine.

Tell your our wife to floor it every now and then. These cars love to be driven hard. Redline a day keeps themechanics away.

My 2011 had 35K on it and my 2014 just rolled 25K with zero problems. I beat on my cars every time I drive them.

I know the feeling. My younger brother's 14GT had similar or less miles when they replaced the bearings in back due to loud humming noise not too long ago. Not even a daily, also garage kept. It was somewhat surprising find because his isn't a Track-Pack car. Btw, those Pirelli tires are known to be bad. The new Michelins are good investments.

On my 13GT end, the Shortblock was done at about 35k miles along with new lifters. Pretty much a complete Engine rebuild. I had a month and half Powertrain Warranty left. It would have turned into 10-grand nightmare.

Fair to consider it 'lucky' as it was my Engine rebuild. Ford usually gives a hard time approving those big repairs out of their pocket. The dealerships mostly say it's normal. What I would do is try and get repaired any abnormals you can find while the warranty is still intact.

The question is whether to keep the car or not. QC is always an issue with Ford. I'm starting to realize my car isn't a Lexus. Maybe driving it hard is the answer.

Hey Thanks. That will be the question - she drove a 2001 Lexus IS300 for 16 years and the only thing I ever did other than normal maint was replace about 2 lightbulbs over 182,000 miles..... starting to wish I had it back....

Well of course that isn't normal. The rear ends are usually the stoutest part of any rwd car, especially stick axle cars. You've had a bit of bad luck there but, these rear ends are usually very durable. They have 31 spline axles, big carrier bearings, sturdy limited slip plate diffs. I've been pounding on 8.8 cars for decades, with power adder and slicks without a single problem, even on the the older 28 spline units.
