they are probably keeping on the same path so they can release the 2014 model in spring 2013 with out having the 2013 model year be shortened like the 09 model year was. why have a long 2011 and then have to crunch 2013 later on?

That's been par for the course for the last couple of years, no reason to change it.
Seems to work and allows them to stagger models over the 3 shows, as well as ramp up prior to the busy season.

2010s were shown in LA first.
2011s were shown in LA first (V6) and Detroit (GT) and GT500/SVT in NY or Chicago.
2012s will probably be no different, and I doubt the 2013s will be either.
Keep in mind if there's an SE, no one said one way or another if it will be available at launch or not.

Notice this lines up the releases to public roughly around the Mustangs Bday?
Coincidence? I think not.

It's all about timing... Get the new model out for summer.

It's a good plan as this is a good weather car... I'm amused that they're releasing 2012 dates and they still haven't gotten 2011's flowing smoothly... The wonders of departmentalization within firms!

You and me both, brother...

This may be a stupid question but if this is to take effect then when is the last date I can custom order my 2011, January 2011? Or November of 2010?

It will likely be sometime before November 2010. It will depend upon when the expected 2011MY production capacity is filled.

Only five months from now? Dang.

Cue panic to buy them now while there's still time.

Some Ford executive then chuckles: "All according to plan."

Get them while they're HOT!!

Seriously, what is going to change other than a character in the VIN?

Hey Paul, put me on the pre-ordering list for a 2012 MY. Keep the 2011 when it arrives, i'll trade it in. ;)

Home link at a minimum. Probably a few other small things. First year of the 3.7 and 5.0 no doubt there will be some other misc changes.

Smells like a new design might be in the works.

50th anniversary will be on April 17, 2014. Seems like a perfectly good reason to pull model years forward in anticipation of releasing the next generation on that date. How soon can I order that 2012 Grabber Blue Boss 302?
