2012 Boss 302 Mustang to come with TracKey!

Apparently the Boss 302 will come with dual sets of keys, one with a street tune and the other with a race tune. Gimmick or not, I think it's awesome!

Geeze, Ford is really pulling out all the stops with the Boss. It's like the Terminator all over again.

Me likes.

Especially if they make the tech available to 3rd party tuners (e.g., you put on some Steeda aftermarket parts and get a Steeda street tune key and a Steeda race tune key).

Pretty cool. It would be nice if the next-generation Mustang also had programmable shock absorbers, like the new Corvettes have.

I think this would take away from the old school approach that the Mustang has. I am ok with some technology but I think I could see this if they were to build a performance coupe in the Lincoln department. Would I buy one? Absolutely, as a Lincoln.

Segway did this first; what color key you had determined your top speed.

Sounds like this is a dealer installed option? I hope that the tuners will analyze this and provide even better tunes for our standard GT cars.

Technology is great but sometimes it scares me.

A small part of me wished that I waited for the Boss to come out before I made my purchase but I really do not think I could afford the extra cost. I think that the Base GT with a few upgrades is all that I need.

How long do you think it will take for the tuners to reverse-engineer this and offer launch control in their tunes?

I think there will be some learnings that can be taken away from the Red-Key (BOSS302R Grand-Am) Tune, but I'd imagine that the bulk of the gains won't translate to standard GTs; the 302R tune will be optimized for 4-8K RPM operation (The 302R revs to 8400 IIRC). From what I understand about the "base" 5.0, the valvetrain is at float risk above 7200 RPM; so you won't be able to take advantage of the power gains way up top.

If FRPP releases an assembled BOSS302 cylinder head and 302 intake package at some point down the road for regular GTs...then we're in business.

I noticed in a pic that the tach of the Boss showed a red-line around what looked like about 7600 RPM.

I'd love to see the launch control and possibly adjustable EPAS settings make it down to the GT as an FRPP option.

Actually Chevy beat Segway - the oringinal ZR-1 Corvette had two keys for different performance levels.
