2011 Powertrain info at LA 2009 Autoshow

I'm sure that we'll start to hear more in the coming weeks and months, particularly November, when the 2011 GT500 will be available to order. You'd think that the ordering guide would have to list aluminum block if available .

This is not the first time that I have heard they plan to go public this winter with the numbers. Good things come to those who wait... And I hope the waiting is almost over!!!

wow... another article proclaiming what we've heard 20 times... and yet the fact is... "Kuzak (The Ford guy) didn't divulge any specifics regarding the Mustang during the broadcast". Soooooo...???
Ok, I get it. The 2011 is gonna have a 400hp GT and a 300+ hp V6.
I'd love to see that.
I'm just not getting my hopes up on these numbers... I mean will you guys be disappointed if Ford comes out with a 380hp GT?
I wont. They've always underhorsed the engines... But the car has always had the huge advantage of being much lighter than the competition. Everyone and their mother is CLINGING so hardcore to this magical 400. When in fact it doesn't need it. The Camaro needs 400+ cuz it's so outlandishly heavy... 380 hp with it's respected torque curve can surpass a camaro. But to the eye and on paper, 400hp just sounds so appealing.
All in all, I'm just saying don't be shocked if it's 365-390hp.

And I would be happy even if its only 350 HP, there will always be aftermarket.

I guess it makes sense that Ford would let the cat out of the bag by winter. I assume Mustang sales are pretty much done by the fall. Who buys a rear wheel drive muscle car in the winter? That way they will have people talking over the winter and getting the hype going for the start of the new model in the spring.
They wouldn't really be losing much in terms of 2010 sales by unveiling details of the 2011 at that point. As well, they aren't really losing sales, just postponing them anyway.

I'm pretty sure it will be more of a "squashing the rumor" then letting the cat out the bag type of thing.

There are not a lot of '10s sitting on lots right now. Rebates are good. Ford knows people are expecting big things for 2011 and that's why job 1 is starting in a few weeks.

Motorauthority.com are still speculating the RoadRunner is a Twin Turbo Coyote.......despite confirmation from Brad that RoadRunner is a high output version of the stock n/a Coyote.
http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...9-la-auto-show
We've already heard that the 2011 Mustang is expected to get a pair of new engines--a 3.7-liter Duratec V-6 engine to replace the existing 4.0-liter unit in the current base Mustang. Power is expected to go up despite the drop in displacement, from 210 horsepower to a whopping 315 horsepower. That's about even witth the curren't 4.6-liter V-8's output in the Mustang GT, so Ford is upping the performance there, too, with the new 5.0-liter Coyote V-8, rated at 400 horsepower.
Joining it is also a rumored twin-turbocharged, aluminum-block "Road Runner" version of the engine that could rate as high as 600 horsepower for the next GT500. We'll have to wait until December to find out for sure what Ford will be packing into the next Mustang, but if it's anything like the rumors, it's sure to be exciting.
Other major upgrades to the 2011 Mustang include an even more focused Track Pack, with a sharper suspension, bigger brakes and grippy Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires, plus the return of the "5.0" badge.

How are they not losing sales...with the rumors many are witing for the 2011 and the 2010's are sitting on the lots. If they were to bring the 2011's, out with all the rumors to be true, Ford would have 2010 V6 and V8's sitting on there lots taking big hits trying to move them.
I'm pretty sure it will be more of a "squashing the rumor" then letting the cat out the bag type of thing.
