Question - Does anybody know the logic, if any, behind having to get the security package in order to get the HID headlights? There is another thread on the lights, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a rational reason behind this. Thanks!

IIRC, in the order guide it lists the 18" polished wheel as a standalone option on the V6 and GT Premiums. If you don't like that wheel, there was no other wheel available in 2010 other than the 17s. Just get this and switch the wheels out? OE wheels direct sells sets of replica Mustang wheels as low as $350.
"64M" 18" Polished Wheels are optional only on GT Premium 400A & 401A, this same wheel comes with the 202A V6 Pony pkg, but is NOT available separately on a V6 (based on these 2 documents).
If I forgo the $995 MCA pkg. and stick with the factory 17's, I'll swap on a set of 235/55WR-17 as this was the std. GT tire '05-09. There are plenty of UHPAS (ultra high performance all season) to pick from in this size on tire rack or d-t-d and prices are reasonable (5 with decent ratings under $125 each).

Really? Never thought that headlights would be an item sought after by thieves. How the heck does someone even steal them?! You have to have the hood open to access the assembly. Dang.

What's hard to swallow is the price difference between an '11 and my past SN-95's that I ordered / bought brand new ...
1994: $15,965.50 ... out the door (tax, title, etc.), no rebates
1998: $15,642.27 ... $86 under invoice and incl. $1531 worth of rebates
2004: $16,957.72 ... $100 over invoice and incl. $3000 rebate
These were all V6 Coupes with 5-Speed MT, '04 was base Premium (no other options),
'98 was optioned up to basically match what the '04 came with std.
'94 was well equipped (Leather, ABS, Anti-Theft, & CD Player only options missing); however rear spoiler, leather wrapped wheel, & 16" wheels the other two had were N/A on a '94 V6.
2011: approx. $27,009 (base P8A Preminum coupe out the door @ $100 over invoice)
add the MCA pkg., HID's (& Sec pkg.) that I want ...
now it's approx. $28,759 out the door @ $100 over invoice
What am I getting compared to my '04 for an extra $10k ??
112 HP & 55 ft-lb torque, 6-Speed trans, LSD, ABS, Traction Control, Stability Control, EPAS, Side Air Bags, Safer Fuel Tank location, 2 MPG improvement on the highway, Leather Seats w/ Lumbar, and lots of electronic features that will take quite a while to get used to !!

When HID's first started showing up on cars, they were expensive options costing several thousands of dollars. A nice target for theives!

Do the HID equipped cars turn the lights on when you unlock the doors? I know some HID equipped cars disable this, as it isn't good for the ballasts to run with the car turned off.

I'm thinking that if a crook is expert enough to swipe your headlights in a timely fashion they probably know a trick or two for disabling an alarm system.

Brian is pretty much spot-on. I wanted to add that when it was the Active Anti-Theft Package (which turned into the Security Package), back in 2005, Ford gave with the package a 60-amp/hour battery to run the system and blow the horn longer. Then when HIDs came out in 2007, the Security Package was required. I took it as they wanted a stronger battery to help power the HIDs. I could be way off, but that is what I took from it.
