Will the Interceptor be built?

Maybe....maybe not but I did this quote in this Autoweek.com article very interesting:

Freeman Thomas, Ford’s North American strategic design director, says what the Interceptor represents is very realistic—and that Ford is seriously looking into building it, or something darned close.

I hope so. If Interceptor goes into serial production I will buy one.

And to think that I almost bought 300C ...
Interceptor is worth waiting for.

I believe the article. I can see the vehicle being built. Now will they offer a manual in the car, I just don't know.

Very nice. They could bring back the Fairlane badge for this one.

Ford commissioned the interceptor and MKR as concepts, but the design/build teams made them as close to Production look as they could get away with. As a result, people more readily voice their desire for something they believe is/should be close to production already. Good on the teams for doing their jobs right, and (if they're built) good on the white collars for paying attention.

Here's the part of that sentence that worries me: "...or something darned close.".

If "darned close" means the production car is 90% of the the concept, then I'll be happy.

Well, we know the interior is a pure flight of fancy so that's the 10% in which I was referring. The rest of it needs to stay the same.

Hopefully "something darned close" means "more production realistic" rather than "something completely different with it's styling cues."

I think front end will be changed little bit, because it just doesn't look realistic enough.

I doubt a production version would have a hood hinged in the front that was full body width.

Knowing Ford, that 10% change will be going to production with a 3.5L v6 and a 4 speed auto.

Ford: PAY ATTENTION.
People want this car's powertrain as is. Bring the body and interior into reality without cutting corners or even considering MCR actions on it. Be bold!

The wheels aren't going to stay the same. 22" wheels on a production vehicle = unlikely. Though either 19" or 20" wouldn't suprise me.

Remember, that powertrain is the Cammer 5.0L race engine. That motor is not street legal (not emissions passible), and on top of that, its a $15,000 motor! Now, that isn't to say that they can figure out a way to make the motor pass the smog test, but the price of the engine makes it unfeasible for production. Now, the 400 hp 4V that was shown in the Bullitt threads, that would make for a great rear-wheel drive sedan motor.

By the time an actual production Interceptor would hit the streets, the 5.8L Boss motor will be available. That would be my choice!
