Wife wants a convertible: T-bird?
#21
i like the sky, but if you want front drive, i like the g6 convertible, or an older volvo c70.
i wouldnt touch the t-bird if your worried about a return for investment. I wouldn't touch anything dcx with a ten foot pole. Audis have awesome engines, however dont expect all the creature comforts to stay working for a very long time, as with anything european, the tt has a crappy electrical system. I love VW's, but you have to have the time to work on it yourself if your going to own one. I did, i loved my dub and will own another one soon. but i dont know if i could reccomend one to anyone.
if only subaru made a convertible.

Totally what I was thinking. I would totally let her be a Jeep chick. I would have no problem driving one of those, but they are just too awkward and unhandy. I must say that the '06 Mustang Vert we had on our honeymoon was a lot of fun and easy to use.
....maybe if I had her sign a contract stating she would always drive according to my driving rules. (I don't like the way she drives... she speeds, is hard on brakes, hard acceleration....and never changes anything no matter how many times a tell her to stop.) She now drives a focus, so maybe if she had more power she would not be so hard on acceleration.
...all of this becomes greatly exaderated in the snow/ice. When I had my '03 V6, I got stuck just on the ice in my driveway...

The 2 seat T-Birds are going to keep going down in value for a long time. 10 to 20 years from now is when you'll see values increase.
The 2 seat T-Bird is a slick car, but it fell short of what it should have been. It's a boulevard cruiser, not a sports car.
It's main problems are its very flexible unibody and it's excessive weight due to all the bracing added to try to strengthen it. The D/EW-98 was not designed to be a convertible and the 2 seat T-Bird was a Band-Aid solution.
Another problem is it's small interior space and horrible headroom. But if your wife is shorter than 5'6" she should comfortably fit in a T-Bird.

Well, my wife just got a new job, and she is now making more money than me, but hey, its good for the both of us. She says she wants a convertable, but I'm not sure what to get her. I'm intrested in what you guys think a T-bird will do value wise as the time goes by. Will it become what the 57's are, or will it just keep going down in value like other cars do. I know they are pretty steep still....around 21K for a 2002.
At the same time, I dont want to get anything that I would be ashamed to drive...so no bug, miata, solstice, etc..and she doesnt want a SN95 mustang.
Here are my other choices:
s197 v6 mustang
TT roadster
Z3 (maybe)
eeh....sebring
I'm trying to convince her to get a Terminator vert for me instead

Avoid the Sebring like the plague, those things are crap defined. Drop tops as all weather cars are kinda an oxymoron. The Solara is ok, but it amazing how un-sporty it drives. Go around the turn faster then the sign says and its tire squeal city, the platform is ancient. My vote-G6 Nice car that is way under-advertised. Not super sporty either, but not the marshmallow the Solara is. Power hard top for the price too is kinda slick, and play the color combos right and they look more expensive then the sticker says. Solaras don't seem to age well either, they dent and ding if you breathe on them.

I am pretty sure the t bird is mostly jag under that body. My father in law had one and I was able to drive it a few times. Nice ride and good power I also thought it handled pretty well. He passed away and now my Brother in law has it up fopr sale. Red every option avail. low miles hard and soft tops. I believe he is asking low 20's for it.

The T-bird is the DEW98 LS platform. They even use the exact same dashboard, console, steering wheel, and other interior hardware. They are OK cars and I like them personally, but cowl shake is insane over bumps. If you have your elbow on the sill and your hand on the A-pillar, on bumps you can actually feel the twisting. They suffered the same fate as the LS, too much money on the platform and no budget for interiors. The view in the mirror of the rear deck also shifts out of line with the mirror. I'd still take a performance white with red leather I'm not even 5'10 and my head will sometimes brush the cloth top.

well...I went and drove a silver 2001 Audi TT Roadster quattro 6 speed. it had 54,000 miles and he wanted $16,900...Had a Borla Exhaust and pretty cool aftermarket wheels. The car looked band new with abslulelty no sign of wear. It was actually a fun car to drive. It was slow though. I ended up passing.....I'm not sure if I did the right thing though....

I think the Saturn Sky is actually the least feminine of all the litte 2 seaters, then the S2000.
I saw a bumper sticker that read: "I'm not gay, but my Miata is." - and yes, it was on a Miata.

I agree with a previous post, the Saturn Sky looks much better than the solstice, that car kinda looks like a cutrate electric razor. Out of those choices, I pick the TBird, but, for open top driving, nothing is as good as a Jeep. We have a '84 Jeep CJ7, and we absolutely love it. Take the top and doors off, and go cruising around, its wonderful.
