Thinking/Thought about a 2003 SVT Focus

Went up to a local Subaru dealership where a friend of mine works to look at Pastrana's Rally WRX on display. I spotted a Black 2003 SVT 5-door Focus with ~52K for ~$9,999.00. So I took her for a test drive and it's a pretty **** fine little auto. I thought about trading in my Taurus for the little Focus . . . still thinking actually. It looks like the Focus has a aftermarket header and maybe cat-back, and the interior is in pretty fine shape. BUT, and this is a big BUT to me it has been wrecked so I think I am going to pass. Besides I REALLY want a Volvo V70 R and I think I might drive the Taurus for a couple more seasons until she's well worn.

That being said the SVT was/is a darn nice little ride.

I'm right there with you. It is amazing what you can get a seriously low mileage SVT Focus for. I've looked at two with less than 60k miles for under 10k of late myself. If I can find one like that with the 03 only Euro package (full leather seats, HIS headlights) in silver or blue I might have to bite. I've been contemplating a 5-door as well although they didn't come with the full leather seats, and I really want the full leather seats.

I understand the desire for the ubder-Swede iron. But while I've been thinking about holding out for the same myself the appeal of a well wrought, fuel efficient hot hatch in the spirit of the classic hot hatces has a growing appeal for me. I just really like the idea of being able to park a semi-sensible little daily ride next to a blown Mustang. Maybe I'm becoming eccentric in my old age? And under 10k for a performance car, even if a mild one, with less than 60k miles on it is &*^% tempting.

I had one of these for a rental back in 2003 when my F 150 was in the bodyshop. This little coupe could get a ticket or two if I had it long enough. The funny thing was the shop called on a Friday afternoon and I was at work, said they had given me the Focus by accident and needed it back for the weekend. I was on a job 3 hours from Kansas City and no dice. I had fun drive home Monday morning.

Those are hard to find used here - plus, their either red and/or sellers want too much for them.

They're one of my all-time favorite cars.

Bought an 03 for the wife earlier this year and I love that car. Almost bought a 2nd one for myself before I wound up buying another Mustang instead. Wouldn't hesitate.

I have a 2002 SVT Focus and we love it. I couldn't believe how good it handled on the tail of the Dragon!! My wife couldn't keep up with me and she was driving our BMW Z4!!

I wouldn't mind getting one and trying to raise a wheel in the turns every opportunity I could. I always thought they looked pretty good myself.
