Which of these Focus's...

Do you guys think would be better on insurance with a 17 soon to be 18 year old?

Used, Loaded, Automatic Focus or Used, SVT Focus, 5 door hatch.

i ask because my dad was talking about looking for a Focus for me, and i remember this nice SVT Focus hatch for sale.

I'd guess since it's got SVT on it, it will be higher.

If you can swing it, go for the SVT :nice: It is still a 5 door small engined front drive hatchback car, which looks good on paper :dunno:

Well I'm a 42 yo male with nothing on my record, but if it's any help, I was looking for a Focus Myself, so I asked my agent what insurance would run compared to my 97 T-Bird LX 4.6 V8. Believe it or not for the same coverage my rate would go UP $170 every 6 months. I already pay $120 a month for full coverage, so I decided to ask some more questions. I have also been looking at a Nissan Altima Coupe, it was the same as the Focus $170 more every 6 mo, I also had been considering the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T and it would only raise my premium $80 every 6 mo. Lastly, I have also been looking at the Kia Forte Koup, it was the best of the bunch, My premium would only go up $40 every 6 mo. The agent couldn't tell me why the Focus and Altima were so much higher. :dunno:

Focus can be higher then much faster cars do to the fact that more inexperienced drivers drive them and statistically the focus costs the insurance company more money.

hm, do u mean just the SVT Focus or just any Focus?

Red Jay 4/3/10 09:40 PM

my and my dad were thinking of looking at this used 03 SVT Focus for about $7,850. what do u guys think? is it a steal? or should i be on alert checking for any mechanical problems and request a test drive if possible?

03's you'd check the basics. Brakes, air, all electronics (radio, windows, door locks, mirrors etc for gremlins)Trans etc. Don't know much about trans options (auto only or manual and auto's, or manual only), but if it's a manual make sure it goes smoothly in all gears without excessive wobble on the shifter, clutch works fine, auto check for shifting into all gears without excessive jerking. Make sure it downshifts, you can put it in each gear, and that each gear matches the PRNDL. Common with alot of Fords is adjusting that is a PITA and if it's off it's been out. CV joints and tie rod ends are common with this years also. Test drive for sure anyway. Never buy used without it.
