WTF is this??
I witnessed a 1987 Ford Taurus LX station wagon 5-speed run 250+K miles before it was DONATED because it kept running.
I also saw a 1992 Ford Taurus wagon sold for $200 to a family friend with 190+k on it.
Neither of these cars had any problems and regular oil changes were all it really took to keep them going.
I personally don't understand the appeal of Honda or (especially) Toyota vehicles on any level.
I don't understand this mentality either. What is the point in purchasing something if you plan to sell it?

Believe it or not, cars don't last forever. After some point you have to replace them with something newer because it doesn't pay off to continue to spend money on repairs.
I prefer, when I can, to replace my daily drivers after 5 years or so of ownership ...
p.s. I had a '91 Taurus for a short time in 2002. A friend of mine left it to me when he returned to Europe. It had 134,000 miles. The whole car rusted out so badly that I ended up selling it to the junkyard for $50.

I've had my Mustang for 8 years and have no plans to see it leave. I've had my Fusion for only a year and have no reason to see it leave. If you want the newest toys, buying them is probably a bad idea.

I never leased a car, but a friend of mine at work did. It was a Toyota RAV4 on a 2 years long term. She ended up paying ~$1,500 for body work that needed to be taken care off after those 2 years expired. RAV4 was 2 years old and it had some wear and tear and she had to pay for it.
That's why I don't wanna go with lease, I have enough problems in my life to worry about how much extra I will have to pay when the lease is up.

Sounds like she had bad terms on the lease. Most people I've talked to that lease vehicles have very little cost and the end of the lease. I had my '05 Mustang for 3.5 years before people stopped asking me if it was "new." I still have a hard time convincing people I've had it for 8 years.

No, it's my fault (somehow) that rust protection was so poor that a 11 years old car started falling apart from the rust ...
Don't get me wrong, I love Mk 1 Taurus (1986-1991), but even Yugo had a better rust protection from that time ...

you said it was a friend of yours, you only had it for a short time 11 years after it was made. Being up in snow country can take it's toll on a car rust-wise, but they're fine if you take care of them. This obviously wasn't the case here.
