New GT for Ford?
Rumors are circulating in Dearborn that Ford Motor Company is considering a new, high-priced, low-volume halo car to follow up the GT40-inspired Ford GT built for its 100th anniversary in 2003. The new model may not be a traditional performance car. Some high-level execs within the Blue Oval are suggesting the next halo should be a highly fuel-efficient, or electric, low-/no-emissions "green" model. I always thought they should have kept the Ford GT in production as a permanent halo full on performance model. A hybrid performance model might be interesting, IF they get it to actually perform well.

No reason it couldn't be. Look at that crazy thing Porsche showed us recently. :)

Don't taunt me with a headline of 'New Ford GT' and then start talking about hybrids. Curse you Motortrend.

ya wtf thats a dumb idea. take the same powertrain as the 03 and wrap in new packaging and we'll all be happy

I take it you guys haven't seen the Porsche 918 Spyder. 500 hp 3.4L V8 mated to two 218hp electric motors. Sub 3.2 second 0-60, 200mph, and almost 100 mpg. Pretty friggen cool.
|
i saw it but it sounds like crap
|
No way lol. Just imagine a ~500+ hp 6.2L with an extra 300 or so hp on tap whenever you wanted it...

I don't think Ford wants/needs to go that far. |

And a price of $500,000 if I'm not mistaken.
I don't think Ford wants/needs to go that far. If they build a production car then yes, sub $250k is ideal. I just would like to see what Ford could do if they decided to go all out and build something to fit in with the likes of cars like the Enzo, the McLaren F1, Veyron, Zonda, etc... |

Haha, the 918 does sound a little rough on idle but under load it's pretty nice. It's no Carrera GT, though.

Just bring back the GT, and offer me 0% for 84 months and I'm there.

This is the car that Ford should've built. 2005 Shelby GR-1 concept. 6.4L V10, 605 hp and 200+ mph.
It's still not too late. http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-20...A-1280x960.jpg http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-20...S-1280x960.jpg http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-20...D-1280x960.jpg |
looks amazing for 1980. Try keeping that thing clean.
|
ya thatd be awesome. just paint it and its perfect

I have nothing against a hybrid sports car like the 918, but DO NOT attempt to call something like that a Ford GT. Just sayin

A GT-class car will require significant engineering and development investment. The lineup's come a long way, but I'm inclined to think it's not worth the money unless the vehicle is a showcase of Ford's new technology. As much as I like the GT and the GR-1 concept, just putting out another shiny old-school performance car with the good ole 5.4 would be a mistake. If they do this it needs to have an EcoBoost Coyote and/or hybrid AWD and as much technology as they can cram into it.

According to Autocar, the proposed car would use a higher output version of the Blue Oval's 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder driving the front wheels and an electric motor at the rear. This would allow for both on-demand all-wheel-drive and electric-only drive at low speeds. If this plan proceeds, it would be Ford's first through-the-road hybrid, although French automaker Peugeot has firm plans to introduce at least two vehicles with a similar configuration in 2011. |
