I don't think any of those engines will be offered in the USA.

I hope we get at least one of them. 52 or 47 mpg would be nice.

We'll probably get 1.6L, same one used in Fiesta.

so these guys made it stateside, but no one is talking about them.
with the ugly stuff that mazda has been releasing lately, this guy is a looker!
personally, way better looking than the fiesta, especially front end-wise.

now that it's over here, let's talk about possibilities!
3-doors!

Funny, I've actually seen this car on the roads around here before the Fiesta. Go figure.

lol, that's an old thread! 3.5 years old! Pretty cool to go and look at old stuff like this and see how things turned out in the end. We were just speculating back then as to whether Ford would spin their own b-car off of this thing.

I have only seen two of these on the road. They're pretty cool, I'm happy that it and the Fiesta turned out to be quite distinct from one another.

also, I should point out that in that first post, where I said I think it looks nicer than the Fit, that was probably comparing it to the old Fit. I think the new Fit actually looks really good, I'd say almost as good as the Fiesta. Fiesta is still my favourite in this group though.

Total obliteration would be more proper.
I've only seen two Mazda 2's and one Fiesta so far around here.

Just a note of caution: the 2 feels alot cheaper than the Fiesta. I don't want to bag on it too much, it's otherwise fun and has that zoom-zoom pedigree. But the interior, rigidity, and quality feels like a letdown if you sample it side-by-side with the Fiesta.

I feel the same way, but I've thought it through, and I do know why. In my case, I prefer the simpler, significantly lighter, and by all reports better handling of the Mazda2 over the Fiesta. The fact that is is less expensive is a bonus, as is that it uses the common 4x100 bolt pattern, so wheels from my Miata and Mini should fit it.

my wife is looking to replace her 99 mustang, so we've been test driving cars left and right.
test drove the fiesta and the mazda2 this past weekend.
exterior wise, the mazda2 is hands down better looking, in my opinion.
the front end on the fiesta is unappealing.
the interior on the mazda is good, buttons are all placed perfectly, aux connection is placed at the bottom next to a little tray to hold your mp3 player perfectly. it was solid, although having the power locks in the bottom center console will take some getting use to, and my wife HATED the red lights, i really don't mind them (of course, it doesn't matter what i think ).
the interior on the fiesta looks a bit higher quality, but the set up and some of the features were not to my wife's liking, like the light-up cup holders ("too ghetto" )
driving wise, you can really feel the lightness of the 2. it accelerated nicely, and feels good when turning. both i am sure have very similar 0-60 times though.

both cars still take a backseat to my honda fit sport. 5 speed auto, pedal shifters, usb cable, better looking rims, WAY more space for passengers and cargo (was able to fit a small 60"x30" couch in the back no problem), better crash test ratings, etc, etc,

we sat in the new v6 mustang. WOW!!!!! awesome. love how the dash is so high, the center console is your arm rest, and just the feel of the car was great!!! but, it is too much awesome car for my wifey.

also got to test drive the new hyundai sonata (loved it), hyundai santa fe (not bad, for an suv), toyota prius (hate it!!! never been in such a slow car, ever!), mini cooper base and s models (not as fun to drive as people say they are, well, from what few minutes i test drove them for. i had to really hit the gas for them to go. it was odd.)

top 3 cars in my wife's buy list are: 1. mini cooper base, 2. fiat 500, 3. mazda2
i'm personally hoping for the mazda2. mini cooper is just too expensive for its size (might as well get a 300hp mustang v6 at that price!)
we haven't test driven the fiat, of course, but once they are released, we'll be there. after that test drive my wife would have made up her mind.

I'm hoping the Mazda 2 makes the cut too. Thoughts of parts and maintenance costs of a FWD BMW are unappealing. FIAT/Chrysler product? - 'nuff sed.
