And another linclon pickup bites the dust.

Zastava_101 9/3/07 02:49 PM

Lincoln need more vehicles.

Moosetang 9/3/07 08:05 PM

They're getting another crossover, a new sedan, and down the road a possible Mustang derivative. Beyond that, sure they need more models. But not pickup trucks. They need the MKS to get here already, they need the MKR or something similar. They need SE editions of their vehicles to go up against Caddy's -Vs, and they need as many Lux-UVs as the market can take. But the pickup was never gonna give Linc anything more than a conversation piece.

Zastava_101 9/3/07 08:15 PM

They need at least one vehicle in each category.

MKZ, MKX and Navigator are ok.

But nobody wants outdated Town Car or even worse - luxury truck.

The LT was just a quick and easy way to get a product into Lincoln showrooms. I'm not surprised it's getting the axe with new Lincoln products in the pipeline.

It's this type of thinking that's so damaging to brands like Lincoln. They're supposed to be special vehicles; we don't need a Lincoln truck, we don't need a Lincoln sportscar, we don't need a Lincoln-ized Focus or even a Fusion. A lineup of just the MKX, MKZ, and upcoming reardrive Twin Force is all Lincoln needs. (Maybe we'll keep the Navigator so the Redskins have something to drive to practice.)

Lincoln pickup truck was a stupid idea from the start. not suprised that it wouldn't do well.

Lincoln is supposed to compete with Cadillac, Lexus, BMW and so on.

Not Bentley, Maybach and/or similar vehicles.

There is nothing special about Lincolns, they're just fancy Fords.

But there used to be something special about Lincolns, and Ford needs to find a way to build special Lincolns again. In the 1930's the Zephyr changed the face of the luxury car market forever, as did the MkI continental based upon it. In the early 1960's the Continental was the luxury car everybody else wished that they were building. Sure, more money would get you into a more expensive and more exclusive Bentley or Rolls, but it wouldn't buy you a better (or better looking) car.

The most unfortunate thing is that Lincoln is an easy fix....the kind of cars Lincoln should be building are obvious. However the changes needed would be sweeping, and somewhat costly, and unforutnately it seems that the folks calling the shots at Ford are fearful of any changes that aren't extremely conservative. While this is understandable Ford needs to get their collective head straight since it wont work....nothing as broken as Lincoln can be fixed by conservative means.

Check out the latest from Ford in the news today, another drop in sales has the company down.

Chrysler and even Toyota were down. GM was up but that is allegedly due to a 20% increase to daily rental fleet sales not retail sales.

Lincoln has the same problem as Mercury, just not to the same degree. Lincoln doesn't belong in the truck business. Never did. Back out for the second time and stay out. Focus on what Lincoln is supposed to do. Luxury competitor for Lexus, Caddy, etc.

Hollywood_North GT 9/12/07 01:45 AM

A Lincoln pickup truck was a stupid idea from the get, and demonstrates just how braindead some of the decision makers at Ford had become; no clue about the raison d'ĂȘtre for their own brands.

V10 9/13/07 10:50 AM

Yawn, somebody wake me up when the idiots in the Lincoln marketing department have finally given up on pickup trucks.

rhumb 9/14/07 02:54 PM

Good riddence to yet another pimped up F-150 pickup, just a stupid concept form the get go, sort of like hand made Italian leather work boots ... what's the point?
