Ford — 168,174 sales, up/down 0.0 percent
In terms of sales gains, Focus sedan and hatchback enjoyed the biggest leap, with numbers up 91.4 percent to 19,736 sales. Explorer sales rose 18.7 percent year-over-year to 18,453 units, the new Escape saw sales climb 14.5 percent to 23,148 last month, and the Taurus sedan enjoyed an increase of 9.8 percent to 4727 sales. Other models received more modest increases: F-Series pickup truck sales rose a modest 1.2 percent, and a volume of 55,077 makes September the 14th consecutive month in which F-Series sales have increased year-over-year.
Many of Ford’s other products struggled in last month’s sales race. The biggest loser was Fusion, which saw sales drop 37.0 percent to 12,300. That’s no cause for alarm, however, as the decline simply represents the gap as stocks of the old 2012Fusion dwindle before dealers build up inventories of the all-new 2013 Fusion. The Flex sold only 1518 units last month, a decline of 27.2 percent compared to September 2011. Mustang sales fell 12.2 percent to 4439 cars — a figure that trails cross-town rival Chevrolet Camaro by 1231 sales. Sales of the Fiesta subcompact dropped 1.1 percent to 3923 cars.
The new Ford C-Max hybrid recorded just 969 sales in its first month at dealers. Ford’s heavy-duty pickup trucks enjoyed a 54.0-percent sales bump to 522 units, the Transit Connect small van sold 3013 units for a year-over-year gain of 15.4 percent, and even the aging E-Series full-size van saw sales inch up 2.8 percent to 8952 units.

Lincoln — 6802 sales, down 3.1 percent
The Lincoln luxury division continues to struggle — and its overall sales volume remains so low that even the Ford E-Series van sold more units than the entire Lincoln brand. The division’s top earner was MKZ, with sales up 33.0 percent year-over-year to 2575 cars. It was closely followed by the MKX crossover’s 2110 sales, a figure that represents a decline of 6.9 percent compared to last September. The MKT crossover and Navigator SUV both enjoyed sales bumps, of 30.8 percent to 488 sales and 28.2 percent to 846 units, respectively. The Lincoln MKS sold only 709 units, down 33.9 percent compared to a year ago. Finally, the now-discontinued Town Car still managed to record 74 sales even though it’s no longer in production.
