I had a 2001 and it was the perfect size for me.
They should've kept it, made it just a smidge bigger, update the drivetrains, and a typical re-design/interior update ... there's still a market for a truck that size, just not as big as it used to be.
And for God's sake, start offering a diesel engine like they have been overseas for years ...

I may seem to come down on you a little hard, sorry in advance.
So it really wasn't the perfect size, and it had to grow. Longer? Wider? Both? Do you think that 30-year-old ladder frame platform could grow without significant investment?
So you've made it bigger, given it updated drivetrains, and improved the interior all so you can sell to a significantly smaller number of buyers? How does Ford afford those updates, on a bigger trick with an updated or new platform, while keeping the price below that of an F-150, and make money in a smaller market?
Trust me, folks, Ford loves to make money and if they thought they could by updating the old ranger or figuring a way to get the T6 into this market, they would.

It's not really that small of a market, Ford could've easily sell 70,000-100,000 of them per year ... which is a lot more than they sell much cheaper Fiestas.
