I'm betting this is the long-rumored Capri revival. I wonder how such a car will be positioned in relation to the Mustang. Or, put more simply, will we witness the Mustang moving a notch or two up the ladder?

Potential goodness here. That speculative rendering looks a bit pudgy and perhaps too close to a Focus 3-door, hopefully a more distinctive body with perhaps some more Capri cues.
As for placement, vis-a-vis the V6 Mustang, I think these two cars would be distinct enough to both be viable in the U.S. market, even if some hard performance numbers end up the same. FWD/AWD vs. RWD would be a big one right off the bat, but each would certainly have very unique characters, driving characteristics and audiences, not that there wouldn't be some overlap. A shame that Mercury is history as this would make a perfect Capri III.
