My buddy is trying to decide between getting a 69 Mustang Fastback and turning it into a Mach 1 clone, or getting a cobra kit. I tell him, and he agrees, that the cobra would be way sweeter and mre rare, but it will probably take longer for the project to be driveable. He under stands that to get everything the ways he wants it, it will end up costing around 25K, either way he goes. But what I say is that he can get a really nice 69 fastback tomorrow and be able to drive it while he transforms it, the cobra will need take a while, and I dont want him to get frustrated. So I guess what I'm asking is, what do you think he should do?? How hard are the cobras to build?

I think the Cobra would be cool, I too, would like to know what all goes into making one. I've seen some really nice ones though. One thing to consider, the cobra's don't have any kinda of roof do they? :dunno:

I read an article a while ago about insurance companies not wanting to cover the kit cobras due to a high horsepower to weight ratio and people not knowing hot to handle the cars. I have no idea what the picture is like these days but a couple quick calls to insurance companies should end that mystery.

I also have a magazine/book specifically on all the kit cobras out there (as I was going to build one about 5 years ago) and they bashed Factory 5 Racing cobras pretty severely. I'll get the exact kit cobra magazine/book and post the details here so you can make your own judgement call.

couldnt you just reginster the replicobra under the identity of the original donor car? b/c the FFR one is designed to be completely built off of an 87-04 mustang, as in every part you would need is in that car. so technically its almost the same car, so why would the insurance care?

do they really have to know that you modified it a ton? cuz thats really all a cobra kit is, a very extensive series of modifications. i would think that if u bought say an 87 GT donor car and the kit you could have it registered as an 87 GT. is that correct? any FFR Cobra owners wanna chime in?

oh and jason, they make hardtops you can stick on em, but theyre pretty ugly
