Actually F-100 is not Ranger's replacement.
F-100 will be a mid-size truck and Ranger will stay in a production as small truck.

Well if Ford makes its money from Trucks and SUVS than why not have more trucks to choose from. I guess more truck models should equal larger market share in a profitable truck market.

I think it would be wise for Ford to keep the full size trucks for people who actually use pickups for work and have a line of smaller, lighter, dare I say unit body pickups for the "casual" truck users.
I mean, does a half ton pickup that gets used occasionally for hauling garden stuff, bikes, home depot runs, etc need a fully boxed extra heavy duty steel frame?
Maybe it's time for a Ranchero like truck to come back, but still make it look like an F-series truck, but with a 4 cylinder or V6 as engine choices.

the f100 is not to replace the f150, just to go along next to it. it could be a unibody larger scale piece though. i would like to see this concept drawing in the flesh, could be really cool.

Correct. F-100 will be competing against Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. F-100 will replace Explorer Sport Trac.

When did they announce for sure that the Ranger was still alive?
Last I saw it dies in 2009 and nothing for 2010, then the new T6.

As for Ranger, you are both correct. The Ranger will stay in production as a small truck, switching to the T6 platform for the 2011MY, but is is apparently going to take the two year hiatus you indicate before that occurs.
