The Escape Hybrids have been used in the western seaboard for Taxi's for about a year now but now Ford has moved into the Big Apple.

That is REALLY COOL news. Thanks for the article Andy. Too bad that we couldn't drive the cars at the seminar Tuesday. I got there late, as I had something I had to take care of first.

Yeah, I was a bit dissapointed about that but it was neat how they had the cars there to compare. I was stunned at the differences and the quality that the Fusion and Explorer had over the competition!

I was looking for you man Oh well, I'll catch up with you sometime else. I forgot to tell you that we had a 1997 Panoz Roadster stop by the other day with the Mystic-style paint scheme. It was 1 of 5 ever produced and two of the other ones are in museums!!

You can't escape hybrids!
LOL, no you can't can you. But you can buy an Escape Hybrid...

sorry, lame joke

Ya they mentioned this yesterday, nice to see some more details. Thanks for thinking of me again andy, it seems i've developed a reputation around here as the guy that gets excited seeing the word Hybrid... cool.

Ya, when i was in NY about a year ago, I was like, holy crap, i've never seen so many crown vics at once... sweet! But man, they all had really squeeky brakes. And i just couldn't stop thinking about all those 4.6L V8s churning away all day long, non stop, in some of the most brutal city traffic. Manhatten... talk about the perfect environment for hybrid technology. I was thinking they should make a crown vic with a V6 hybrid for the thousands and thousands of taxis and cop cars that spend so much time idling and crawling around in city traffic. The new V6 in a hybrid drive train would be more than enough for the needs of a crown vic cop car. I mean, that V6 is more powerful than the old 4.6L, wait till you pop in a torquey electric motor as well.
But it looks like it might be a while before Ford has a RWD hybrid drive train, so for now, these escapes should do pretty well. I wonder how the cargo space compares to a crown vic...

LOL, all NY cars brakes squeak. I grew up 30 mins from the city. The joke is that even the cars in the showroom have dings in the door, LOL.

Anywho, I think if they could develop a hybrid engine in the Crown Vic a lot of people would be happy. Cops and Taxi drivers love them. I know when I used to live up in Allentown they thought about switching over the municipal cop cars to Intrepids. Needless to say that fell through. The cops would actually argue to NOT take the Dodge. They love the Vic's. Ford is going to keep producing them for the sole reason of fleet vehicles. Amazing how strong the demand is isn't it?

I do think having some Hybrid's in the city is a great idea. It gives the services another option as to what they want to use

Andy, THAT was the car that was there. I couldn't make out the message you left on my phone. Was it the Esperante or the AIV roadster? Please tell me you got some pics?
