2012 Ford Focus Engine Details: 2.0-liter, Direct-Injected, 160-Horsepower

Ford has released details on the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that will serve as the standard engine in the 2012 Ford Focus. The new engine will feature direct injection and variable valve timing to help improve power and fuel efficiency. The new engine is rated at 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, compared to 140 hp/136 lb-ft in the current Focus. Equipped with the optional automatic, the new Focus is projected to deliver a 40 mpg EPA highway rating.
The double-overhead-cam (DOHC) 2.0-liter will feature variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts, and thanks to direct injection, will feature a lofty 12:1 compression ratio. Those in corn-belt states may be interested in its E85 flex fuel capability. To reduce weight, the block, cylinder head, oil pan and pistons are all aluminum castings. I want one. screw the fiesta. This will be way better for the price i think.

'Build and Price' is suppose to be ready on FMC's website by the end of the month. If the sizing is right I think I am looking to pick a Titanium 5-Door Sports package next year (late). Although I hope maybe the Wagon may be available in near future. If the Wagon becomes available I will wait for it, but I am not holding my breath.

Zip might be the best word for it. That engine is only 10hp down on the old SVT Focus unit, has just a hair more torque that engine, and has a wider/flatter torque curve too. It wont be bending the laws of physics anytime soon, but it should prove to be fairly spry. On a side note, if this were the base engine in the Fiesta hatch I might find myself a lot more interested in the littlest American market Ford.

Depends what you want. That few thousand price difference could be big for some people, and that's even assuming Fiesta doesn't shave some money off it's sticker after Focus is available in volume.

I comletely agreee. I think most people will agree that the Focus is step up over the Cruze.

And regardless of their styling, focii (focuses? LOL) have been well built dependable little cars. My '99 cougar shares a lot of components w/ the first gen focus (it may be more zx2 than focus), and that thing is at 140k+ miles and still going strong

If it were available for the Fiesta, it would practically rule the small hatchback class. :nice: Fuel mileage would probably improve too.

awesome. the fiesta i build always ends up too expensive for what i think the car is worth. If i can get some options that are important to me for anywhere close to that same price, the focus is where I'll be.

Makes one anticipate this feature on the already awesome 5.0.

The Fiesta seems like it would be just a bit too small for our family of four (kids are 6 and 7 and growing like weeds), but the Focus may be just the right size, with decent driving dynamics, and great mpg. I've been thinking about a 4 cyl manual trans Fusion, but the Focus may be a better choice, assuming it doesn't encroach too much on the base Fusions price.

Not sure if people have seen this but there is already a $500 rebate on the Focus.

It's the same 'pre order and well give you....' strategy they used with the Fiesta. I expect to see that strategy as a staple from here on out.

decently pimped Titanium sedan or hatch for $25,000... but that's mustang territory. i was able to build one up to 27,900... its was awesome, but ouch.

I priced out a Focus sedan the way I'd order one, basically an SE with manual transmission, the sport package, and winter package, and it came to just a few hundred dollars under $20,000. Pretty pricey for a car in this segment, and for our family of four, I'd almost rather have a base manual transmission Fusion for the same money. If rebates and X-plan pricing allow me to get the above spec'ed Focus for $16-17k, I'd seriously consider it, but IMHO Ford needs to drop the MSRP by at least $1000.
