Beginners Advice for Aftermarket Car Stereo
So I have this eye-sore stock stereo in my 2001.
Any advice from SN95 owners for a decent aftermarket stereo?
I'm just looking for a decent head unit.. I don't need speakers, subs or amps (right now!). I'd like something with a nice screen that could easily display CD text. I'm also very interested in how I can integrate my iPhone in my 10+ year old car. iPhone control through the head unit would be a plus. I'm inspired by this and this youtube video of iPhone integration in 99-04 Mustangs. I'd love to have my phone cradled, charging and streaming without unsightly wires going everywhere. Streaming audio to a bluetooth-ready receiver?
Once I find something, what can/should I do with the extra DIN space?
- The volume **** has a mind of its own- turn it down, volume will go up.
- I can't see the time when the CD or radio is on.
- I haven't and will never have a need for a cassette player.
- I have an iPhone with all my music but am constantly burning CDs

Well you can get a casset that has an adapter for an aux cord ( iphone head jack)... So you can listen to your music from there....

go to crutchfield, they've got every option available. It may be a bit more expensive to buy a headunit there, but they send everything you need, adaptors, and have absolute first rate customer assistance.
you can buy a double din setup, or if you want single din, they send a piece that makes the second din a storage setup.
as for iphone integration w/ charging, you'll need one of the more expensive kits, usually $40-50 that hook to the back of your HU, and are manufacturer specific. I've got one and it's fantastic.

I bought the Pioneer AVH-P400DVD. I absolutely love it, sounds great has alot of features (they've added a ton more), and I got it on sale at the end of a model year.
If you go double din, you may want to see if it has the ability to turn the screen off, it's quite bright, even at night, and the good folks at Pioneer thought to include a button to turn the screen off.
Here's the new one, and I believe you can even use Pandora through it.

Do I have a Mach 460 system? I don't know... and I forgot to mention that I'm on a budget. The 7" screen is sweet but I think it would be cumbersome to adjust the volume with a touch screen no?
I think I'll do some searching. I'd like a double-din system to fill up the car nicely. Pandora would be sweet and it would have to have some iPhone integration in it. Then I just have to figure out how to hide the sync cable.

the pioneer touch has a row of buttons on the bottom with vol control and some other things
SVTCobra, your car looks like the older brother of mine, same type of head unit, same floor mats! haha
As for the iPhone cable, you can run it down the inside of the center console, and up through a hole in the bottom of the console if you want. It's really not in the way at all. I'll hook up my iPod and throw it in the console and be good to go. If you guys can't tell, I love my setup these days!
Glad ya'll appreciated the Blazing Saddles. Definitely one of my favorite all time movies. I had it in the HU for a while, just for the sheer rediculousness of being able to play a DVD in my car. That's almost just pointless!
