Bad K&N installation - WARNING

2 Attachment(s)
I just got around to cleaning my K&N filter on my 01 Bullitt I just picked up 2 weeks ago . . . . . 1st I noticed the steel mesh on the filter was broken on a few spots . . . .. . THEN I looked in the car and noticed the filter was rubbing on an electrical wire harness! nothing was rubbed thru . . . .but wow . . . . I could have had some electrical gremlins and not know why . . . . . . does anyone have a picture of a properly mounted K&N filter . . . .the last owner just had the cone flopping in the wind! Also I am tempted to get the OEM bullitt air filter housing . . . .. does anyone have one for sale? I think I can do without the extra 5HP!

Do you have the original (cone) air box? If so, you could have a drop in K&N and would be just about the same improved performance.

figured out . . . . .

OK I just figured out what the last owner did . . . (god bless the stang lover, because he is dead) . . . . . . it looks like he changed the stock air mass sensor (so I no longer have the 4 mounting holes) . . . . . the four mounting holes are required for the stock air filter housing AND are also required for a true $200 K&N air intake system (57-2523-2) . . . . .this kit includes a heat shield which you mount on the fender which will stabilize the filter (and prevent the rubbing) . . . . . without the 4 hole stock mass sensor I can't mount a new heat shield in the K&N kit. So I just followed the previous owner and bought a new K&N generic filter ($50) . . .. . but my improvement to the system was duct tape over the electrical harneses to prevent rub thru by the bouncing filter . . . . . . when I get $200 I will get a K&N air intake which the Bullitt deserves.

Bracket

OK I just finished this little project the last owner left me. I had a local shop fabricate me a bracket ($120) for this aftermarket air mass sensor . . . .now my K&N filter is stable and not touching the body rail/wire harnesses . . . . actually in 2 days of "flopping" I did notice holes in the wire mesh of my NEW K&N filter! I guess thats another $50 for a new filter! I should bill all this to the last owner! But now all is good!

$120!? Hope that bracket is billet & anodized aluminum, magnesium, or titanium. Wow... At least your problem is solved.
