So I got the door panel off today. Thanks to Mellow Yellow for his help. Also if you look at my other post "Can't get the door panel off" you will see Tiberius1701 posted some PDF instructions in there.
It wasn't hard once I knew what to do. Basically remove all the screws around the outside of the door panel. Then remove the power mirror controls (they just pop off). Then remove the power window controls (again pop off) and remove the screw that is behind the power window controls: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/16.jpg Hard to see but the screw is in the top right of the pic. Next there is a small panel behind the arm rest that needs to be removed. It will pop out with a screw driver. There is a torx bolt behind the panel that needs to be removed: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/1.jpg Now there is a small panel behind the door latch that will pop out with a screw driver. There is a torx bolt behind that needs to be removed: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/15.jpg Now just lift up on the panel and it should come off. There will be some cables that need to be disconnected as well. Here are the other pics I took. The door panel totally removed: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/6.jpg The back of the door panel: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/4.jpg The 5x7 speaker: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/3.jpg http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/7.jpg The opening for the 5x7 speaker. Notice that the mounting surface is NOT flat (hard to see in the pic) so it will be harder to mount an aftermarket speaker in there. http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/8.jpg The 8" woofer is attached to the door panel, not the door frame. To remove it, take off the cover, remove all the screws around it and there is also a screw holding it in from behind that needs to be removed: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/5.jpg The woofer itself: http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/10.jpg http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/12.jpg http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/13.jpg http://ca.geocities.com/robcaldarelli@rogers.com/14.jpg So that is all the pics I took today. I hope they are helpful for those of you looking to put in aftermarket speakers. Also, it does not look like there is enough room to put crossovers in the door panel. So they will probably have to go elsewhere. Let me know if you have any questions. Rob. |
Nice pics! Thanks a ton!

g/j. keep us posted on the changes - if any :)

Rob,
Thanks a TON for the pictures! They DEFINITELY address that all consuming quesiton I have had for a while: Will I be able to fit JL Audio 8W3V2 subs in the door??? Answer: YESSSSSSSS!!! I can see the minor (ok, VERY minor) fiberglass work I wil lhave to do to make room for the larger motors. Simple. And I can also see that replacing the cheap factory subs is DEFINITELY required! I just don't understand how they can spend so much time and money designing a very nice car and sound system and then put the $1.99 drivers in it. Oh well. Gives me something to make better and all my own. |
OMG. Chaotic Bliss! this is the best thread this year (not hard, its only been 3 days).
I too have been wondering about putting JL subs in the doors. THANKS A TON. |
Why does the plastic say Mach on it? wouldnt ford have changed that when they started making 2005 mustangs?
|
Nice job documenting that :photo: I didn't even think to take pics when I did my install. Gluck on the rest!

I got the regular cd player(non shaker 500/1000) but my question is does the door still have the enclosure behind the door panel and then just not sub since its only 2 speakers in the doors and 2 in the rear.
I am thinking they would still install the enclosure to save money but just install the sub for the shaker 500. I want to install door subs and I am hoping its still there so I can save 700 bucks... LET me know thanks |
oh no, now I am not sure if the 5.25inch speakers I bought are going to fit into the front door.
Thanks for finding and reposting the pictures! |
Thanks for the Pics!!
Did you happen to measure the mounting depth available for the 5X7 door speakers? I'm wondering how shallow replacement speakers will have to be. Thanks, :nice: WD |
