Shaker 500 door sub wiring (speaker wire)

I'll try and make a long story short......

I upgraded to the Shelby Kicker door subs and I was powering them with the stock amps for about a year. I added a sub in the trunk and decided to finally power them with an after-market amp. The stock Shaker 500 amps have been removed. My setup is this:

JVC head unit ---- RCA cable ---- after-market amplifier ---- speaker wire running to front of car for subs.

I want to tap into the factory SPEAKER WIRE only; that runs into the door subs. I tried the output plug (top side) of the Shaker amps in the drivers foot-well and no dice.

I don't want to run speaker wire into the doors if I don't have to, I plan on doing that but not right now.

So does anyone know where I can tap into the speaker wire part of the Shaker 500 door subs? I don't need a turn on or signal, the after-market amp is ready to go I just need to figure out the speaker wire running into the doors.

Thanks for the help,

This is what I am trying to do today. Can the wires be found where the original shaker amps were?

I thought so but I must be wrong because I'm getting nothing. Here is the ouput (top) side of the shaker amp:

I tried every combination you can think of and I get no output. Amp is good and I tested with another sub and it works.

When I did my system, I just spliced directly into the wire from where the speaker plugged into the amp (cut the connector from the speaker to the am), pulled out the amp entirely. Worked fine, so not sure the problem here.

You might try (unfortunately) opening the door panel again, and testing continuity on the wire from that location plugging into the speaker (which you know worked when the stock amps were there) to the plug that went into the kick panel amps (those amps were a royal PITA to remove, by the way -- worse part of the entire thing). You can use a digital multimeter for this with the probes at each location, or hook up a 9V on one side, measure voltage at the other.

I will say, though, that the pinouts on my 2009 headunit were nearly entirely different from the 05-07 years, so its possible the door sub pinouts were different as well (I had an older diagram, and took forever to discover it was completely wrong).

I thought I could do the same! A couple questions Vapor if you don't mind,

You spliced into the plug on the top of the amp correct? The factory subs are DVC but I have the Shelby Kickers which are SVC; the other set of speaker wires are taped off. The subs worked fine the day before so I know they're good. Here is the left side amp plug:

I too cut the plug and removed the amps. I tried tapping the left coil nothing, right coil nothing.

Does your plug look similar? Thank for replying, I was actually reading the same links you provided at work earlier so I could troubleshoot!

Unfortunately it's been too long so I don't recall completely what they looked like and all. I didn't run the wire through the doors, though, so I assume grabbed them off those ones you posted up.

It was my first install, and I'm not much of an audiophile, so I assume SVC and DVC refer to the number of coils?? I got 2 ohm kicker CVT8s in there (they don't fit perfectly, but do fit) hooked up to a separate 2 channel MB Quart amp. I just used one set of wires to the sub, so I assume single coil -- don't recall not using another set of wires there...

On that connector you just posted, do both of those wire pairs go to the sub? I thought one went to the door 6x8, maybe I'm wrong? I just looked at the colors under the dash, then the ones in the doors, and matched them up that way. Not the most convenient thing for you now, though, I'm sure.

Sorry, I should have clarified. You are correct, SVC is single voice coil and DVC is dual voice coil.

The Shelby Kicker subs are CVT8's made by Kicker to fit in the opening, they are also 2 ohm SVC so I only have one set of the speaker wires going to the subs. All four of the wires go to the sub I do believe 1 set for each coil.

The four 6x8's are powered by the head unit. Your info helps me very much, I appreciate it! I'm going to do some more troubleshooting this weekend and see how it goes.
