Pioneer TS-A6885R
Go to Wally Worl for to get these. Dey on sales right now.
--- Now, with that told, I had get some new speakers for the back because they were seriously rattling. This was later to be found not because the speakers in the back had come apart or anything, nope. It was because I'd had the back glass shatter due to something hitting it from construction (allegedly. But that's another story.) It was not tinted, so it didn't hold together. That glass eventually wound up in the speakers, and now you can't really get the speakers cleaned out because of how they're made. So new speakers. You've all seen how to do them in the back and doors, so I won't bore you with that (but dang, them back screws are *hard*, people... cramped hands aren't fun. :p) Now, I'd done the research and all that. Sure, I coulda got Kickers or Alpine or whatever, but it seemed that the Pioneers were the ones to get. better range, 4 way speakers, good power handling, 4 ohm, drop right in... same pricing at most places... *WHOA*... Walmart has them on sale/rollback for <60 bucks? Buyin'. So I got them, and took the interior apart and replaced the ones that were in the car, front and back, all done, no big deal (got two Metra speaker kits too, much better than splicing stuff in the car. Got those at Best Buy 'cause in a hurry and all that.) Wow. They sound much better than the stock, brighter, and even have better low-mid sound, enhancing the bass notes. And that's with the stock Shaker 500 head unit, btw. I'm seriously considering the Raxiom nav unit that's in that other thread... Definitely recommend these speakers. They sound excellent, to this here non-audiophile, and the price is just too nice. And I'm sure you could find an ebay deal or whatever, but I was in a hurry... Just wanted to inform y'all in case you wanted to swap out the muddy stockers. :) |
Cool tunes. What are Metra speaker kits? You got the same model speakers for the door and the rear deck? Link to the front speakers please?

I went for Pioneer TS-D6802R speakers in both my doors and rear parcel shelf. Here is a picture of the Metra Kits I used. They are part number 72-5600 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207256...g-Harness.html Attachment 188428 |
Same model, Glenn. Even though Ford put different ones front and back, they're only a wattage rating difference, 4 ohms otherwise, so no need to put different kinds front to back, unless you just... I dunno... wanna.

Update:
One thing these speakers do is make it so that the talk radio (sports talk, mostly, I listen to) doesn't sound awful. It sounds more normal, and not boomy/less treble. Hard to describe, really, but the overall effect is I don't want to adjust my bass/treble anymore in comparison to the music. Anyway. Throwing that out there. |
What does the Metra kit do?

Be careful though, some of the Metra kits have the wiring swapped. Not a problem if you replace them all but if only replacing 2 speakers, they will be out of phase with the others.

No. Don't want it, honestly, because then I couldn't hear the car either. That's important, y'know. :)
|
Oh you can still hear the car. It just seemed to take out all the unwanted noise. The one thing I noticed when I installed my deadner was the radio sounded 5 times better.
|
Hm. I'll have to look into it... in the future. Other things to do/pay for. *le sigh.*
