Ok you painters. Is it possible to paint my XM Satellite antenna body color, or will it destroy the reception? I hate seeing that black blob on the back of my vert. Thanks!

I would say you can paint it with no loss of reception. I have mine sandwiched between the metal and carpet between the two back speakers and it works fine. Not to mention no one even knows it's there. I also have a GPS antenna hidden back there that works good. They both work in the garage as well.

I have mine on the front dash. It is so small that I hardly even notice it there. I mounted it on the passangers side, next to the outer edge of the defroster vent. Signal is fine outside, in my garage it cuts out, but that is what the internet is for, and if you have Directv you can get it on there for free.

Painting it body color should be no problem whatsoever. I put about 4 coats of mineral grey on mine and followed with some clear and now it looks awesome! I've seen no evidence to indicate that its degraded signal quality in the 6 months since I did it...

should be fine, I have painted many aircraft antennas and radomes over the years, the new "mettalic" paints get their effects from mica and plastics so there is no metal to degrade the signal
I have my antenna in the left front corner of the dash, works just fine

Thanks for the responses guys. I have an extra mini antenna I can use to test both putting it under the dash cover and painting it body color. I would rather not have it seen at all. Thanks for the ideas.

I used touch up paint to paint mine. You can either use the Ford touch up paint (available from the dealer) or the after-market stuff (I got a bottle of MG paint and a bottle of clear from Pep Boys).

What about putting the antenna underneath the front dash? Also, how will tinted windows affect my reception? And for anyone with gps & sat radio, did you run the two antennas to the same point? I was told that doing so would degrade the reception. Thanks.
