Weird that after well over a year of hardcore, obsessive lurking my first post is about music, which is nowhere near as exciting to me as the sound of the engine.
Anyway: forum searches for FM transmitters haven't turned anything up, so apologies if this has been covered already. I'd installed a cheapie stereo that had an aux input jack in my last car & run a minijack cable between the player and the face. In the 'stang, it looks like a transmitter is the best bet. I'm thinking of stashing the transmitter and the player in the console. Does anyone here use a transmitter, or have any recs as to which is best? I've been looking at the iRiver AFT 100. Thanks, Bel |
All of the fm transmitters I've used have been buzzing and staticky. I burned my mp3's onto cds at 192 to 256 kbps and have been having great results with that. 68-100 songs per cd and to my ears the same as cd quality. If burning mp3 cds is an option for you you might want to go that route. Less convenient but worth it for the increase in sound quality in my opinion.

Oh, well. I suspected that might be the best route for now.
Thanks! -Bel |
The one i have listend to for the ipod sounded great. It sits nicely in the cinter consol and is easy to acces. It charges as it is docked so it is a great addition. I will be getting one when i get my car.My best advice is to find a good transmitter. You will get better sound with the one that is around 29.00-39.00 rather than the one you can pick up for like 10.00.

It's not for mp3, but I am using the wireless transmitter for the Delphi XM SkiFi with success. There is a slight drop in sound quality, mostly in volume, but it works well.

Just wired in an Audiovox FM Modulator I pick up atr Circuit City for $50. Plugs inline with the antenna for the Shaker. Use it with a DELL Jukebox mp3 player and sounds great. I mounted it under the shaker and used the power from the Power adapter on the top of the dash. I ran the power switch for the Modulator and RCA cables under the center piece and mounted the switch in the center console the RCA cable is about 18 inches so it can rest on my lap or in the cup holder and I can tuck it away when I'm not in the car. The only bad thing is the power from the power adapter is constant so you need to remember to turn the switch off when you get out of the car.

Very cool!
I figure it's worth buying a more expensive model if it means my player isn't sitting idle. I have a lot of Audible.com audiobooks and the hassle of converting the files & burning them to disk is nasty. Thanks, everybody - Bel |
