I just picked up an '09 ambient console for retrofit into my '05.
Does anyone have a schematic of the factory console wiring? This thread is helpful, but I'd like to double check wire colors before trying to tidy up the cut harness received from the wreckers.
Now I made the harness that would connect the console to the front LEDs. The length will depend on where you plan to put the front LEDs.
Since I used the same female connectors for the front LEDs and the cupholder harness, all 3 male connectors were also the same.
x2 means that 2 wires need to leave the console connector in order to split off
Console connector to Front LED connector
pin 5 pin 4 x2 make wire (~80cm long depending on where light is to go)
pin 6 pin 1 x2 make wire (~80cm long depending on where light is to go)
pin 7 pin 2 x2 make wire (~80cm long depending on where light is to go)
pin 8 pin 3 x2 make wire (~80cm long depending on where light is to go)
pin 10 tap into black wire from auto tranny connector (~10cm long)
pin 2 tap into light blue/red wire from auto tranny connector (~10cm long)
pin 1 tap into blue w/ yellow stripe wire from smart junction box (~2m long - see below)
the blue and green wire out of the bottom you see will tap into the tranny connector, and the red out the top will go to the SJB
Does anyone know what the 3rd wire to the SJB is for? I’m guessing 12v constant, with the tranny plug giving switched 12v and ground?
When I did this, I wired it up according to how Ford did it for the 08 car. So this wiring is how you would find it in a car that came with ambient lighting.
But other than that, I don't remember if the SJB wire was for 12v, sorry.
I no longer have my 05 GT convertible (my brother has it now) but some of the things I have done to it I can do to other cars.
Since the ambient lighting system in the 07 - 09 cars is an isolated system (not incorporated into anything else, it can be added to any car. All you need is a switch, the control module and the LEDs. I am currently adding this to my wife's 1999 Porsche 911, and even got it to work using a stock Porsche switch. I'l post pics later in case anyone is interested.
Posted a video to YouTube. I got the LED in the footwell switch to change colour with the other LEDs as I toggle through the colours in the Porsche. I had to hack the crap out of the switch to make this work. But I am pleased that I got it to work.
incase anyone was wondering, I got a console with the light ring, but I didn't have any of the other leds. I ended up finding some in an 08 focus at a junk yard. Same ones for the mustang. They hooked up to the console just fiine. I had to do a little splicing though.
OK, just got this in the mail today. They forgot to send me 1 jumper wire, and the lower console, but here are the part numbers for you if you are thinking of doing this. I'll post pics this weekend when I put it all together and figure out where to tap into for power.
upper console - 8R3Z 63044D90 BA
lower cup holder - 8R3Z 6313562 A
button - 8R3Z 13D806 BA
lamp covers (need 4) - 7S4Z 13E701 AE (black color)
jumper wire (need 2 - contains the LEDs) for the front - 8R3Z 14A411 B
Jumper wire for the back (contains the LEDs) - 8R3Z 14A411 C
clear ring for cup holder (contains the LEDs) - 8R3Z 14A318 AA
module to control lights - 7S43 13E702 AA
Lower console - didn't come witht he rest of it, so I have to wait.
There you have it. After fiddling with it, it should be quite simple to hook up - I might just tap into the harness for the auto tranny for power.
I'll post pics on the weekend.

I ended up Updating the Accessory Topic. I know you had a Specific Question to Answer and I think that Pic will Help. The Other Updating is to Help Others Considering this Retrofit. You might also want to consider searching the sub forums by selecting the search function menu... When the search menu drop down window displays, type in 2008-09 Mustang ambient lighting... Hopefully, you'll come across a listing of thread submissions which address the ambient lighting options... Meanwhile, hope you'll find the info provided as useful and welcome aboard!

I believe it is Molded in. No Separate Part to buy That I Can Recall. I think a Tab should Not Be To Difficult to fabricate. I was Hoping Somebody Else Would Have Added a Pic For You!
