Hi guys, I am not sure if you may have seen this before but I just finished this install and wanted to show some pics. I installed an Alpine INA-W910, Alpine 5 channel amp, Alpine mono amp, JL Audio Stealthbox, JL Audio 5x7 separates,JL Audio 5x7's & Shelby/Kicker door subs. I made custom shelves for the amps and suspended them from the rear deck. I mounted one front tweeter where the factory door sub amps were and the other above the glove box. I ran all new speaker wires throughout the car.

I originally mounted the tweeters in the doors but wasn't happy with where they were. I usually like the tweeters in the triangles on the inside of the door mirror covers but couldn't due to the power mirror controller. After I was all done I thought I would try and see if the tweeter could be placed in the hole where the power mirror switch is. Sure enough, with some filing I was able to get it to fit like a glove. Before I filed the hole bigger I traced the shape of the original hole so I could relocate the mirror switch to the power window plate. Here are some pics.

 

Looks good. How about the angle difference between the left and right tweeter?

 

Two things. Because the right tweeter is farther away than the left the angle difference actually works to my advantage. When I look at both of them from the drivers seat the seem to be pointing directly at me. And my tweeters have a side to side adjustment so jus clicking the right one one notch towards the center of the car did it for me.

very cool idea. I just finished puttin the tweeters in my doors lol, wish I would have thought to try that with mine. I am still pretty happy with the sound on mine but this is very cool and you probably get better imaging.

 

I got them on eBay but you can get them anywhere.

 

The GT emblems on my door panels are how I plugged the tweeter holes.

That's a sweet idea. I was actually thinking of doing the same thing with the mirror switch relocate the other day.

I have a set of Dyn MD102s that are ready to go in but I'm not sure where I want to install them yet. I have MW172s in the stock 8's location running IB in a custom door setup with MD104s in the stock 6x8 location. I'm going for a lightly moddified look so something like the http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2609356/2005-ford-mustang is awsome but not the idea.

I have the a-pillars drilled already from a set of tweets I had in there before, but the Dyns are a bit bigger and don't sit very flush. Pods would stick out too much for my taste.

I'd like to get away from modding the a-pillars and I was thinking of putting them in your first location or above the mids so the source would be in the same area. Stage height might be the problem here.

What problems did you encounter with them in your first location? What about the tweets in the sail do you like?

The 102's like to run off-axis so I'm not sure if we will have the same requirements for installation.

I'm getting ready to install a set of Kicker components , and I too had thought about the first position , I assume that's the one now filled by the GT badge. However I think I'm going to put them centered on the door handle and on the seat side of it , that will make them like a set of head phones. I googled it and found people putting them there and for some make cars they make kits to do it. It was supposed to give really good imagining with them positioned there. I was also wondering about the cross overs and whether or not they could be attached to the door panel. That way all the new wiring would be contained inside the panel itself ...

 

I thought of placing them next to the door handle as well, but on the other side (front position). Would the tweets be too close to the ear in th rear position? I wish I had more of a handle on imaging to know the best place on the door for the tweets. I think more inline vertical is better?

They may not sit exactly flush in either location where the door curves into the window.

Do you have any links to cars that are running with tweets in that position or the kits you mentioned?

 

For me I just didn't like the way the components meshed together with the tweeters in the original place I put them. I have had many cars for which I installed custom setups and I am just partial to them mounted either in the top corners like where I put them or in the A pillars. I have my boost and Air/fuel gauges in the A pillars so where I relocated them was the best place for me.

 

Originally I thought of putting them where you are referring to but that spot is not 100% flat and a flush mount was not possible there for me. I never considered putting the crossover inside the door because I was running all new wires anyway but I can't remember there being enough room behind the panel to put them there anyway. Well at least the size my crossovers are wouldn't fit. I for one dont Like the idea of having the sensitive device exposed to changing conditions and the possibility of water. Also the door closing over and over can cause havoc to the crossover which is also why I put them inside the car.

 

Thats about where I put mine, and Its paractically flat. I think it sounds/ images pretty well too. The apillar will most likely image better, but after putting mine where they are I am pretty happy with them. They are paired with a 5 1/4 in the door.



As far as the crossover in the door goes if you have a decent sized one it will not fit. Mine was fairly big and I tried every position imaginable behind the door panel and there is jsut not enough space. If it is thin enough it might be possible but I had no luck. Ended up putting it where the stock amps are at.
